One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

Yeah... the resistor itself reads fine so I can salvage it, but the push pull part doesn't work, the shaft just doesn't life up. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone?

Also, does anyone know where in Europe, on the web do they have the cheapest 500K volume pot with push pull, and that takes paypal? That'd be very useful.. Thanks!

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

Hey before you give up try blasting it with 'contact cleaner'...here in the US it is easily found at Radio Shack, not sure about France!

BTW what is with that Daniel Auteuil movie 'Cache'?! Lots of discussion here as to whether it is self-consistent or not....

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

Mhmm I took the whole thing apart and er... components kinda flew everywhere . I don't believe I lost any but I'm a bit stuck with the reassembly, I'm not sure of where the spring goes, as well as the orientation of the back plastic thingy. If any of you has a diagram, I'd appreciate, thanks :)

They don't have it in Radioshack here, and I haven't lived in France in ages dude ;) The music stores here carry them but they're about 11 pounds, so around 18 bucks each. I'm not ready to pay that much.
I haven't seen the movie...

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

OK, your tag line threw me there...so, make up your mind: Scotland or Netherlands!
:-)
As for online, and paypal, and pushpulls, that is a stretch. You might try http://www.smallbearelec.com

or ebay

Scotland during school time for uni, Netherlands for holidays, where my family is :) I AM French though, well done :D
Thanks! I'll try that :)

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

Wow, Scotland in the school months (winter) bloody dark up there! I spent a week in Edinburgh in November many years back, that defined "bleak"...hard to get a good sandwich too, though the Indian food was great. So was the whisky, too....

Great old town though & the castle is a superb tour. You could practically touch the crown jewels back then.

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

I've never been there :laugh2: Only 'tourist' place I've visited was arthur's seat. Fun walk. And yeah it's a great place, I'd live nowhere else if I had the choice. The country is just amazing.

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

I would never try to reassemble one of those. Its not worth it. Advice to others, though: The inner workings consist of white nylon and some metal parts. If you get the chassis too hot during grounding or other wiring, it can distort the plastic parts inside and kill the switch action.

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

And that is EXACTLY what happened to me, I realized yesterday night. St00pid I am :smack:

I agree to some extent, however . . . if its truly hosed, you have nothing to lose. Tear that sucker apart. You'll gain great insight as to how a switch works.

Re: One of my push pull pots doesn't lift up...

No no. I never said not to tear it apart! By all means! :laugh2: I just finished taking apart a Bissel mini carpet shampooer to realize the main soap/water intake was completely broken. Now its in the trash, but I am richer for having been inside there! But as someone who has also seen the exploding push/pull guts, I was saying not to bother trying to reassemble it! Its near impossible.

I'm not sure who's more drunk . . . you or me? :fingersx:
