One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

I was trading necks between my Strats, and while I was screwing down the last one on my Squier I feel the screw giving in.
I thought the wood had stripped or something but no, the screw broke at the top and left the rest of the screw inside the neck and the neck pocket.
So I've got two electrics, one of which I can't use. :banghead:

How unlucky do you have to be for this to happen?
And how am I supposed to remove it from there, anyway?

Re: One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

the holes in the neck pocket should be wide enough that the screw doesnt really bite in there at all, should slide in and out.

this means you can remove the other screws, remove the neck and then use pliers or something similar to remove the screw from then neck.

If that fails, get you a screw extractor.

How the **** did that happen? ¡Que suerte la tuya! I know that this is fixable though. Rest easy Diego. try the methods listed above.

Technically you probably only need 3 screws in to keep that neck stable.

I have a feeling that Diego, as well as I, would prefer not having a broken screw in his guitar. Which is understandable. You're probably right though.

I've had that happen before, and the screw was biting into the body. If the screw was all the way in, and it is biting into the body.. leave it. You'll really have a headache getting that screw back out, even with an extractor.

You know what I say? **** it. Drill a hole right next to that one. Extract the screw with the help of added space. Refill.

Re: One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

glue a screw driver to it and try to unscrew it enough to use pliers, has to be really strong glue though lol

while this is a ****ing badass idea, id be worried about gluing the screw driver into the hole!

I've actually done this before haha! I lost a screw inside a jack hole and I put some glue on an old screwdriver and let them dry together. Then I pulled it out. Pretty sweet.

Re: One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

i used a pair of needle nose pliers to remove an insanely stripped screw from my humbucker mounting ring. i don't see why it wouldn't work. you might have to use a slightly larger pair of pliers though. good luck! i'd be pretty upset if that happened, too

Re: One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

Bring it to a qualified tech and have them get the screw out. Sure, it'll probably cost you a bit, but it'll save you any aggravation and future problems that you might encounter trying to do it yourself.

Re: One of the neck screws in my Strat split in half! FML.

If the usual methods don't work (pliers, screw extractor, EZ out, etc), you can always drill a blind tap that is countersunk flush and gets covered by the neck plate...
