Ongoing LP Jr build...

Hey all, thought i'd post some pictures from my build that I started about 2 weeks ago.

*BEWARE* I'm going to warn you now, some may call this icemanning.... but this build is a very slow one, so that's why you haven't really heard anything about it yet, and might not hear anything more for a while...

Anyway, the specs:
. Precision Guitar Kits LP Jr kit
. Bare Knuckle Blue Note P90
. Tonepros vintage aluminum wrap-around bridge
. Tonepros Kluson Jr (Plate?) Tuners

So first off, I sanded the body and neck. When it arrived, it was sanded to 320 grit. Over 5 hours or so (spread through two days) I sanded it all the way to 2000 grit. Fun, fun, fun... But it payed off....

Then, I glued the neck in place with some Titebond Original glue.. Once that had dried, I went back over and sanded it again with 2000, just for the heck of it.

Now, we are up to the current point in time. Over 4 days, i've put two coats on Tung-Oil on the guitar (Front, sides, headstock on one day, 30 mins later = wipe off excess, leave to dry for 24 hours, next day, flip over and oil the back, the neck, and the rest of the headstock. Repeat wiping and 24 hour rest.) I must say, i've heard people saying Tung Oil never dries, and is hard to work with... I've found it very easy to use.. Anyway, i'm looking to build up as many coats as possible, which should be quite a few, judging by the size of the tin, ahahah! I shall post some more pictures once i've built up some more layers.

Anyway, enjoy!

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Looks like it's coming along nicely. I love my SG Jr kit guitar. Have lots of patience and complete one step at a time. It'll come out just right in the end that way.

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Hey ErikH, thank you very much! I saw your SG Jr, and it made me look into Precision Guitar Kits, so I guess I have you to thank! This is a slow, but meticulous build, so I will be completeing everything to the best of my ability, so hopefully it should turn out nicely!!

925SS, yes, it's a rather nice piece of wood. I had to look closely when it arrived to even notice that it's a two piece body! The only really obvious give away is in the pick-up cavity... The oil might bring out the join line as I build up the layers, but this is going to be a workhorse guitar, i'm not too fussed about it looking super pristine, but I knew I wanted a natural finish.

Thanks everyone!!

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Assembling a kit guitar in your own sweet time is definitely not Iceman-ing. Neither is it Ice-trozombie-ing.

Firstly, you possess the guitar parts of which you speak. Secondly, you have posted photographs. Thirdly, it only took you until the thread title line to tell the rest of us what your fing guitar is.

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Hahaha, Funkfingers, you are a wise one!

I was just covering every basis aha!

I should mention, another half coat has gone on today, this oil is really easy to apply!

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Rokkbert, thank you very much! I'm very much a hard rock and heavy metal guy, but there is something about Juniors... they ooze raw rock n roll!

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

That's gunna look nice when your dun. Love the natural Mahogany with black and chrome!

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Thanks J E C and T ROCKER, oh and T, i'm admiring your build very much!

I should mention that this is my first build also, so i'm taking things very slow.

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Thanks Mont ! I love the double cutaway look with the very business-like finish ... looking forward to seeing the finished guitar. Did you buy any of your hardware from PGK ?

Re: Ongoing LP Jr build...

Thanks T! Um, everything other than the P90 I bought from PGK, just to make things easier, as there are very little shops in my area, let alone stores that sell hardware!

As for the finish, I decided to not try anything above my level, hence the natural wood oil finish, but your amber burst looks amazing!
