Open G and Open D tunings

Is anyone here well versed in these tunings? I've been a fan of the Canadian David Wilcox for years but never got familiar enough with open tunings to learn his songs the way he plays them.

I'd like to change that this year. If anyone has any resources they recommend (outside of YouTube) or tips and tricks to impart, If love to know them.

Unfortunately when you search David Wilcox, even with Canadian in the query, you mostly get links to the American folk guitarist. I'm pretty sure the Canuck one mostly uses Open G and Open D, although I wonder if some of his songs are CGDGBD.

i use both from time to time, but usually for specific songs. like come and go blues in open g. not sure i have any tips really, but if a song is in an open tuning things do tend to fall under the fingers a little easier when you try and learn it

As far as barre chords it's easier, relearning scale patterns is a bit of a pain.

My inlaws have a house in the same neighborhood as the American David Wilcox. What a strange name to get famous twice

I bought Roy Rogers', Warren Haynes' and another sessions guy from New York's videos to learn it, and just slide in general. The originators of these songs and tunings were not rocket scientists. I found it's really easy to learn and find songs by playing around with it, simple moves, usually the famous stuff is right under the fingers.
