opinions for a middle pickup needed

it's a strat with H/S/H configuration for electric blues/rock. the humbuckers will be a custom custom and a jazz and i need a versatile single coil sized pickup which will match them in terms of output. i'm thinking of trying the STK-S2b.

any suggestions are welcome.

I've posted this before mate, try the 5/2 single.

I absolutely love it in the middle of my Silhouette Special.

+1 for the Five-Two.

All that is best about the SSL-1 and APS-1 rolled into one pickup.

i'm sure that both the SSL52 and the SSL-2 have the tone qualities that i'm looking for, but i'm afraid they'll get overpowered by the humbuckers. i never set true single coils really close to the strings, so i think i need a stronger pickup. it doesn't have to give me the original vintage strat tone, i just want to have a truely versatile axe.

The 5/2 most def will not get overpowered.
My bridge is a JB

I drop my 5/2 right down to emphasise the quack on positions 2 and 4 and it's still loud enough to be used on its own.

that's good to know. the dc resistance is fooling many times, so a personal experience is a much better guide. your pickup is the neck/middle or the bridge version?

Wolf. Are you auto coil tapping your humbuckers in selector switch positions 2 and 4?

Actually, on my modified Ibanez, the Duncan Designed SC101m single coil is not overpowered by the untapped DD HB102b. The combination is not as sprangy as a vintage Strat. Instead, it gives a strong but slightly hollow tone. Ideal for palm muted playing.

Mine is the reverse wound middle pickup and Yes I have the JB to split on position 2.
The highter output JB sounds amazing split with the 5/2.. def perfect Strat quack.

Re: opinions for a middle pickup needed

i really appreciate your suggestions guys... i'm curious about opinions for the rails and the stacks too. i know that they don't give any quack, but i have my two s/s/s strats when i need it.

The 5/2 will work great in that configuration. I have a 5/2 with a 59 in my Tele and it works well. As far as a single keeping up with a split humbucker, I have two SSL 5s with a split JB in my Strat and they are nearly as loud as the JB.

i'm gonna keep the custom custom in full mode... it sounds really lifeless splitted, especially on the second switch position (my current middle pickup is a Fender texas special).
