Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

Specifically the blue/gold and gold/gold. A buddy of mine owes me some money (90$) and wants to give me these pups instead. They're supposedly brand new never been opened.

Now I'm tempted to agree for the mere fact of experimenting but I literally know nothing about these pickups, so any help/opinions from you guys would be great.

Re: Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

If you have a Fender type guitar that can accommodate these pickups, go ahead and accept them. For my tastes, the blue/gold is the more interesting sounding pickup. The gold/gold always strikes me as bland, regardless of how its coils are combined.

Re: Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

They seem as though they would fit a standard hb route in other types of guitars as well. Never played them, but I seem to recall that their original cost is close to that of a standard Duncan.

Re: Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

The cool thing about Duallys is that they're basically two separate Lace Sensors wired as a humbucker, so you can use switching to run either coil independently (and it will be noiseless either way) or run it as a humbucker. They're very versatile.

I'd go for the Blue/Gold. The blue sensor is classic humbucker-flavored and the gold is Classic Strat Flavored. Combine them and you'll have both in one package - body but with clarity.

They're designed around 250k pots but you can use 500's to add more brilliance. There's very low magnetic pull so you can get closer to the strings and pick up all the little nuances in your attack.

Any other questions?

Or you can set them to a lower height and get a fatter tone but still with brilliance. I've heard rumored that the gold dually is quite a hot pickup, almost like a Custom or JB, but with it's own flavor.

Not really... if anything it's like a bright neck humbucker. If anything output is on the quiet side.

If you want something like the Custom, go with the Hemi. They both have that loud, pumped up classic kind of thing going on.

If you want something like the JB, go with a Dissonant Aggressor. Concentrated mids, cutting treble, enough lows to get the job done.

Even so, I bet with the design, you could run it up quite close to the strings, and not suffer ill effect. Though I grant that the other choices you mentioned sound good too. It's been a while since I dealt with Lace, and while I like the Deathbuckers I put in an Epi Korina Explorer, I haven't had much experience with their pickups. Love those Deathbuckers though. Totally capable of the AJFA sound.

Re: Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

There is a hotter version of the Gold sensor. It is named, unsurprisingly, the Hot Gold sensor. Frequently offered in a set with two of the regular models.

FWIIW, my favourite model was always the Red in the bridge position. The Emerald, Purple, Burgundy and Light Blue models are all interesting in their own way. In the bridge/Treble position, the Light Blue takes on something of a Telecaster vibe.

I keep meaning to try out a trio of Sensors in a GFS "Red Special" pickguard kit for Stratocaster.

That's right! The Dual Hot Gold Sensor was the one I was thinking of.

Re: Opinions on lace sensor duallys..

I might just have to take them from him. Even if I don't gel with them it's not like I'll have lost much for trying lol.
