Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

Hello all, just wanted to share some clips with you. I'm pretty happy with the basic tone in these clips, but I want to know if the rest of you can tell me why there seems to be some clipping/crackling/popping in some parts of the clip. Can you guys hear it, or is it something with my PC/headphones?? Secondly, I want suggestions on how to improve the tone. Cut back the treble a bit? Make it a little wetter/drier? More mids? Less mids? More bass? Less bass? I'm going for a Lynchy tone, but not quite there, lol. I do however love the crunchiness. Oh, and about my playing, yeah, I'm sloppy as hell and the timing is off etc. :smack:

Now on to the clips! First one is the beginning of "In my dreams":

Second a short riff from "Don't close your eyes":

Third the intro riff to "Lay it down":

And finally, my lame attempt at the relatively simple beginning of the solo in "Alone again":

Any comments/feedback appreciated. :newangel:

If you record in front of your computer, are you sure you have your pc monitor off? It usually creates a lot of noise, at least if it is a CRT one. It sounds like it.

I quite like your tone as it is. It's bordering on "can I comment on it, as I hear it on computer as mp3?" On my stereo speakers sounded okay, on headphones it sounded a bit too loose to my tastes. Otherwise quite nice, indeed. Maybe a bit of delay or reverb, but that's again a purely personal preference. What did you record it with?

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

Thanks for the comments neigbour, my pc monitor was on when I recorded, as I record through guitarport. This could very well be why there's some static noise. Could you hear straight away that it was a modeler, or did it sound somewhat "hot plexi"? I used the jumped channel Plexi model and the 20W Greenback 4x12 speaker simulation btw. I think I'll try to re-record, sitting further away from the computer and adding some more reverb and or delay. Anyways, cheers! Did it have to little/much of treble/mids/bass in your opinion?

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

Yeah, and I reckon you're right about "loose". I want it to be tighter. Will adding some more gain/compression help this out?

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

When I record on my computer, using my PodXT, I just place the mouse cursor over the record button, then put monitor off and then press click. That way you won't get so much noise.

I liked your EQ on those clips, I wouldn't change anything. I've never heard a real plexi, so I can't comment on that. I thought that it sounded good, maybe a bit one-dimensional, if you could say that. Maybe it's the modeler, maybe something else. I don't know enough to say. The looseness is also a tough spot, I don't think that it was that bad. It may be just something to live with. Try out things and post again!

What part of Sweden are you from?

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

Hello again Johto, I'm from a town called Lidköping which is on the south shore of the lake Vänern. I've been playing around quite a bit trying to improve the tones today, and I managed to make it tighter and fuller/less bright sounding. I added more gain and delay as well. I'll try to post some similar clips tomorrow and then you can comment on what you think about them.

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

It sounded nicer now, to me. Quite 80's, if I may say. Try some longer ones with different riffs for a more detailed review.

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

The only thing it is missing as far as tone, is an od pedal boosting the signal. It will add alot more to the sustain and tone. I find it makes it sound big, and a lot more 80s style. I am not familiar with the guitar port, so I am not sure how you can add or achieve that effect.

Re: Opinions wanted on first clips recorded (Lynch, DeMartini)

that latest clip sounds much better....sounds like you upped the gain, which I was going to suggest you do after listening to the links in your first post....
