opposite of a phat cat

Re: opposite of a phat cat

There's already the P90 stack, but other than that I don't know if they are planning to make P90 sized versions of any regular Duncans like Dimarzio and EMG do.

i faintly remember someone (evan?) mentioning that this is sd's next project.

It would also be interesting to hear a real-deal Firebird in a hummer housing. A2 bridge, A5 neck preferred. What about an Antiquity Phat Cat, btw?

I'm not sure how that would differ from a mini-humbucker.
+1. I've seen folks replace soapbars with minis. Looked pretty cool, too.

are p90s and mini buckers of the same size?

Re: opposite of a phat cat

Minibuckers are smaller dimension-wise than the soapbar style pickups. You can swap them though since Mini-buckers use the mounting ring which if you remove that then the size of the opening is the same as that for a soapbar. So yes they are interchangeable.

Re: opposite of a phat cat

Duncan IS planning on making a humbucker sounding pickup to fit a P-90 cavity. The main difference between a minihumbucker and a fullsized humbucker is that generally the mini will be brighter and cleaner. More of a cross between a humbucker and a single coild than anything.

Re: opposite of a phat cat

Any ideas of what model Humbucker Seymour is planning on making for P-90? Since the JB is the best selling model maybe we will see a p-90 JB? If thats the case I hope there is a neck humbucker like a p-90 jazz or a p-90 '59 in the works that would match that for use in the p-90 guitar. That would give me good reason to get the p-90 Dimarzio Super Distortion out of the bridge at least ;-)
