Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

I already have a main amp, a fender bassbreaker 15. Although it is a beast and does great distortion, the inbuilt distortion isn't quite for metal. I have been thinking about either a micro dark and an aby pedal or just a distortion pedal like a metal muff to get metal tones.
What do you think? Micro dark or distortion pedal for metal tones?

Re: Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

I have a micro dark that I use as a back up amp for gigs. Haven't had to use it yet.
I don't really see it as a metal amp though. Decent rock tones for a SS amp but imo it's not something I'd base my tone around. Good for a back up amp though.
How about a pedal like the Metal Shaman?

Re: Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

Have you tried using a TS-type pedal to tighten the Bassbreaker's distortion up? Maybe that's what it needs to get it into metal territory.

Re: Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

Considering you would need a 2nd speaker cab for the MD too, and still probably wouldn't get what you want, I would vote for a pedal. The SD Palladium or MXR 5150 would be great choices, along with about 50 - 100 others.

You guys just made me realize how much I want the Dark Terror that I tried out at GC a few years ago.

You could run the Micro Dark's FX out to the Bassbreakers FX in as an alternative preamp. The solidstate power section on the Micro doesn't require a speaker load if you use it as a preamp or headphone amp.

Would a wampler dracarys get the job done? Thanks for all the suggestions and replies by the way :)

Re: Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

"What do you get when Brian Wampler, a man who has built an empire on some of the most respected distortion and overdrive pedals on the market, chases the guitar tone of Ola Englund (The Haunted, Feared, Six Feet Under), one of the world’s most aggressive-sounding and identifiable metal guitarists? You get the Dracarys. That’s what."

Yeah, that should do metal.

Re: Orange micro dark vs distortion pedal

When I started out I used a distortion pedal with the micro dark together and used a slight distortion on top of mild crunch coming from the amp in order to saturate the tone with losing definition
