Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

Never tried the Rockerverb, but I have a Rocker 30 Combo and its one of the best, if not, the best amp I've ever owned.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

open back, high gain? you might want to consider getting the head and cab. Supposedly there are alot of quality control issues - a guy at stonerrock.com got bad rockerverb 50. did notwork.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

The Rockerverb 50s have gotten a bad rap over on the Orange forum. I've seen a fair number of threads about them crapping out.

I have a Rocker 30. It's an awesome amp. The Clean channel goes from clean to classic rock crunch and the dirt channel goes from clean to scream with about the same amount of gain as a JCM800.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

I'd love an Orange amp. They sound and look amazing. I had a blast through the Tiny Terror and an AD-30 when I was back in the UK last year. They both sounded superb, especially the Tiny Terror, considering it was only £299!

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

i've played a rockerverb 50 combo and it was quite impressive. haven't played the head version so i cant really compare the two but the sound from the combo ALMOST made me buy an orange instead of my budda. I will own a rockerverb in the future though......

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

Upon hearing some rockerverb clips at the orange forum, im unimpressed. However those Rocker 30's look and sound pretty awesome.
But If I'm looking at that, I should probably look at some Vox AC stuff too.

The Vox AC30 is closer to the AD30 in terms of vibe....although they don't really sound much alike. I tend to think of the Rocker 30 as more of a Plexi/JCM800 (channel 1/2) vibe....although they don't really sound much alike either.

It's difficult to exactly categorize Orange amps other than to say they sound like Orange amps!!! :D

Yes and no.

Older, 'vintage' Oranges sound quite different to the modern Oranges, and definitely have their own thing going on. But to my ears, modern Oranges sound less like old Oranges and more like modern Marshalls.

I personally think the company has steered in that direction on purpose: give kids a sound they recognise and a look they really like. Now, they're great amps, but they certainly have lost a lot of their original vibe. As a result, owning an Orange these days is more of a 'haircuts and trousers' decision for many users than any quest for a particularly unique sound.

You need to spend more time with modern Oranges.

I think you're off your mark. I'm not even going to bother arguing it.

Fair enough, but my experience is related to having played several original pre-80s Oranges, which do sound quite different to say, an AD140 or a Rockerverb 50. If you want 'old orange', check out a Matamp Green. That's the closest modern amp I've tried. Most of the modern Orange range don't really have that vibe to me.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo

just by listening to soundclips Id take an AD140 with a hotplate over the matamp...

That's kind of my point.

The green reissues are quite different to the rest of the matamp range. Indeed, there are a couple of very marshallesque Matamps nowadays too.

the rocker 30 may be more of what you are going for but DONT EVER JUDGE AN AMP BY SOME MORON POSTING CLIPS ON AN ONLINE FORUM. just some words of advice
