Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

Hey guys! So I'm looking into upgrading to a small tube amp, something with some great tone. I've heard great sounds come out of these two little amps, I just don't know if the price difference is worth it. The micro terror is 20 Watt combo amp with a tube pre-amp, and the tiny terror is full 7 or 15 Watt tube powered. What are your thoughts or suggestions? I can snag a used tiny terror head for 320, or the micro terror with a little speaker for under 300 easily brand new

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

I have a Micro Terror and have used a Tiny Terror a fair bit and both are very different amps.

I have a Micro Terror head that I keep in my gig back that I use as a gigging backup if something ever happens to my main amp. Through a 2x12 cab or mic'd up I find it easilly loud enough to get me through to the end of the gig and sounds pretty good too. I've only briefly used it with the tiny cab it sometimes comes with but all I remember of it is that it sounded really boxy. My opinion would be that if you go for a Micro Terror, get atleast a 1x10 or 1x12 cab to use with it.

The Tiny Terror on the other hand is a whole different kettle of fish. It's full valve preamp and power amp as you said and is also different to the Micro tonally.

What are you planning to do with the amp? If it's just home playing then I'd say the Micro is more than enough, but if it's for gigging then I'd say the Tiny Terror would be a better bet.

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

I have heard a micro terror head + 1x12 cab out-volume and out perform a few better amps in a live situation. A hot rod deluxe, a mesa 1x12 and a line 6 thing that wasn't a Spider. The other amps just weren't dialed in right and were mushy but the terror was a really easy amp to set and hear.
The terrors are LOUD for their size. The Orange cabinets make big even bigger with the way their built. Personally I'd vie for a Dark Terror or Jim Root, as they have fx loops. You may not need another amp for a long time.

off u see did MRSAge, I m on tapa talk and auto correct is hating on me

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

I play a lot in my basement, but I do play the occasional little show at a bar or winery around my hometown. So I didn't know if I could invest better with the micro terror, and still get good sound, or if the money would be better put towards a tiny terror

I would go all tube, humbuckermusic.com has them new for super cheap, I bought stuff from there before

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

No comparison for me. The Tiny Terror is a great amp, and those 3 knobs cover a lot of range. It can be used as a bedroom rock/metal amp and it dishes out some real volume if you turn it up. You can also get some decent pushed cleans out of it.
For $320, it's a score. I found mine for $300 and tax in GC's used section and I'll never regret that purchase. Grab it before someone else does.

The Micro Terror is cool, but it's more of a novelty toy in a way. It's good for bedroom practicing and that's about it. You see more of them used, and it's because the novelty wears off quickly.

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

So I decided on the tiny terror, but now I need a cab to go with it. What size do you think I need? I know it can put out 15 or 7 watts, but I don't know if I need a 1x12 or a 2x12 or bigger

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

I just pulled the trigger on a Tiny Terror combo w/ a Celestion G12H-30. Should have it next week.
I'll report back on it.

I think you choose well. I have a micro terror and it is cool for what it is, but it's not the same as all tube. Despite 20 watts it is not like a 18-22 watt all tube amp. I agree with GJ.

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

helps to say in your original post what type of tone you like, the style of music you play etc

that generates better responses as people want to help you ;)

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

I snagged the sale before someone else got to it, so I'm happy about that. Guitar center sells a Peavey 1x12 speaker for a little over 100$, is that a good idea? I'm really unsure of what cab or speaker to get for it. I'm looking for a good alternative tone that can turn into metal when pushed hard

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

So the little micro amp won't work well?

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

Speakers are critical. Cheap speakers and cabs will make the best guitars and amps sound like crap.

Re: Orange tiny terror vs micro terror

You should keep your eyes open for an Orange 212 cab. Then it will be a matching set.

Look at Avatar speakers. Priced right, but if you want to pay for custom, they'll build you an orange one. I'd go with a 2x12. Check out the classic style for more traditional rock sounds , or the oversized if you want for rectifier-style whomp.

Or, buy whatever cabinet you can find locally, and recover it yourself in orange. Tolexing isn't real hard, and all the DIY amp site sell orange vinyl.

I'm looking into a Peavey 1x12 (I just honestly don't need the power of a larger cab) so I have a fair trade offer to snag a new one for my old amp. Then I can tolex it orange. Thoughts?
