Orange Users

I seem to see a big lack of love for Orange around here. I personally own a rocker 30 and wouldn't trade it for the world. That lil bugger does everything I need in an amp. I has good cleans (not fender but I h8 sparkly cleans) and it has a killer OD. What I love most about these things, is how they respond so diferently to different guitars. My agile with emgs sounds absolutely evil, while my epi with the jb/jazz sounds anywhere from sweet to searing to bluesy, while my carvin does it all.

Who owns an orange? If you don't, why not?

Re: Orange Users

I like Orange amps and cabs, but I am VERY reluctant to move away from my Cornfords. It seems they are somewhat similar in that like your Orange, all my guitars have their own sound which is great.. after all don't you buy a Strat to sound like a Strat or an L.P to sound like an L.P? I do have an old Orange 4 x 12 which really is great, such a big warm sound... i'm gonna get another when I see one at the right price!

Re: Orange Users

I love them. I often consider selling up my Marshall for one, but I can never quite bring myself to do it.

Re: Orange Users

I am gonna call the SF store that carries Orange and go try out thunderverb if they have it on the floor. The specs sound amazing .... but why 6550 instead of EL34, not very british .... but anywas the design and description sounds amazing.

Make sure to post up what you think about the thunderverb. I hear that thing is a real monster and insanely loud, 200w is a lot of headroom. If you're anything like me, you'll have to buy it. I fell in love with my orange the second I played thru it.

Its a 100/200 watter and its got built in attenuator, so I think it could played at home just switch to 100 watts and crank attenuator. I love attenuators its a great creative tool, love my webber MassLite as far as am concerned attenuator plus 100/200 watt option its like having 4 amps, that before the reverb, that has a 2 x ECC81, and the ability of this to be a bass amp as well, say for example your four string retard plays slime6 you could actually put great tone down with thign instead. I think this thing is amazing, but it be a while before I can throw down 2700 for it ...

Re: Orange Users

I forgot about the attenuator, cool thing for such a powerful amp. Don't fool yourself tho, those oranges are LOUD. I've got the rocker 30 combo and with the vol at 3, it fills up my entire house, about 3600sq ft worth, not some small apartment. Regardless, who cares if you rattle all the windows and the cops come, you're gonna have sick tone.

Re: Orange Users

I'm in the "love 'em / can't afford 'em" category as well. They're so perfectly crunchy in the mids, which is the only thing my tone is really lacking right now. I want to put an AD30 2x12 combo in my half stack, between the Bassman head and the 4x12. Then I'd have my Bassman providing the thick low-end rumble that I love, plus the Orange cutting through with the sick mids...and it would look sweet!

Re: Orange Users

I like the rockerverb 50. Not enough to sell any of my current amps, but if I ever saw one at a reasonable s/h price, I'd pick it up as a gig/beater amp. I'd probably get new iron, though, as I've heard of far too many transformer failures (though the AD30 is by far the worst offender). Apparently Orange buy their transformers on a 'lowest bidder' basis.

Call me a cynic, but I wonder how many (especially younger) players would be coveting Orange amps if modern oranges were identical to original 60s/70s oranges. In my opinion, Orange have purposely diluted their originality (some reissues aside) in the search for amps that have a more generic 'brit' tone, knowing they have a unique look that they can market to players looking for something a little unique. Not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with that, I guess.

Re: Orange Users

Oh agreed, those vintage Oranges sound really unique, and nothing like the modern ones really. They made those things to last too.
