Ordered a baritone

I've been on a baritone hunt for a few weeks, but unfortunately haven't been able to find any in town to try. So, based on a bunch of positive commentary I ordered a PRS SE baritone from Sweetwater. Hopefully it works for me, although I expect some electronics/pickup upgrades will be in order. I'll give it a fair shake first, though. Can't wait to try it out!

I hate PRS. I'd love them if they'd do some reasonably priced lefty's. Even an import! GAH!

What tuning you planning on?

Probably B to B for the most part. I'm waffling over what pickups to look at though. I reached out to DiMarzio and BKP for recommendations for what I'll be doing (post rock/ambient stuff, with heavier breakdown sections) nice cleans are a must but I also want it to get a little "djenty". DiMarzio said Air Norton bridge/Air Classic bridge in the neck, which really surprised me (I was thinking PAF Pro set, or Dominions). BKP said the Cold Sweat set, which I've never tried. So basically I have no idea what pickups to look at :laugh2:.

Re: Ordered a baritone

Word. I just bought a 27" 7-string. My first journey into long scales.

Anyways, have you tried the DiMarzio D-Activators? Goes without saying they can handle heavier tones but the real surprise is their cleans. VERY versatile pups.

I've read about them, but haven't played any yet. They look interesting for sure.

Re: Ordered a baritone

I'm about to get a used bridge model here in a few days. If it doesn't gel with the guitar I'm putting it in I can shoot it to you to try out if you like.

Re: Ordered a baritone

I bought one of those about a year ago, and like you I had to order it in. I'm very happy with it ... The pickups aren't too bad; just versatile enough to leave in there for now. I was shocked by the overall quality, because some of the normal scale SE's I tried weren't that special (possibly the wonky trems .... Maybe I'm spoiled cuz I have a '92 CE24 and you couldn't put it out of tune if you tried).
The neck feels pretty good too ... Nice comfy shape. If I could do any mods to it, it would probably involve putting some Ghost saddles in, but there might be issues given the size of the low B string ; I can tell they had to file the saddle to make it fit through properly.

I think you'll love this guitar ....
