I know the C5 originated from this forum... but is there a single member responsible? Does anyone know who the first guy to post, "Just stuck an A5 in my Custom & holy sh*t!" was?
i have a feeling there is a bit of 'wink and nod' marketing in giving credit to the users forum for the C5 ... i am nearly sure that i read on this board a while back that SD had been making the C5 (or something essentially close to it) as a custom shop pickup for a number of customers for quite some time
no matter how, who, or when, i love my C5
hopefully some of the folks who've been here the longest and have 1st hand info can chime in with the real deal ...
I always imagined it being someone like BachtoRock or Doc Barlo...but it was before my time, so I don't know who to blame for the C5! I'm sure Seymour tried all the alnico magnets with the Custom wind at one time or another though. What I always wondered was why he held back on making it a stock item. Maybe Seymour didn't really like it all that much or maybe he felt with the 59B, Screamin Demon and JB already in the line-yp they didn't need another alnico 5 humbucker? I don't know! Lew
If I'm not mistaking, Seymour was already making the C5 for Godin... It just wasn't a "mass production" pick-up until the guys up here started talking a lot about it and everything...
I just remember reading something about that at some time on the old forum.... I might be completely wrong tho so anybody feel free to correct me.... Maybe Evan could freshen up our memories a little regarding this...

I'm not the one, Jeremy turned me on to it back in the middle of 2001 and he talked quite highly about the C-5/PGn combo in a SG that he had. If anyone is responsible for the C-5s popularity on this board he would be very near the top of the list.
Seymour did make the C-5 for Godin prior to all the hoopla.
My C-5/PGn set was actually a Custom Shop set that was ordered just prior to the C-5 being released as a production model. Mine is a little different having double cream bobbins, gold posts and studs and it is wound to 14.75k. The PGn I have also shares the same look.
While I really like the C-5 a lot and it gets played far more than any other pickup I have I don't like it in everything. I prefer the JB in my Floyd loaded Strat and I also have Antiquities in a LP as well as a CS set of Jimmy Pages in another LP that are also very cool. One of the best tones I have found is a Dimebucker in PRS guitars.
I may be one of the more vocal users of the C-5, but Jeremy started it if I remember correctly.
