I own a pre 90's Ibanez RG570 and the trem is almost kapput!
Should i buy an original Floyd Rose or keep with Ibanez and buy the edge or lo pro edge?

Cheers

Re: Original Floyd Rose vs the edge

If you're going with Ibanez, you have to replace the original Edge with another original edge. They can be quite expensive, well over $200, maybe. I heard they had REPLACEABLE knife edges. I don't know where you'd be able to get them, but it may be something to look in to.

The new Edge Pro's do not fit in an Original Edge or lo pro. Most people prefer the original edge and lo pro edge to the newer Edge Pro.

If you really like using the Ibanez trem, you may be dissappointed with an Original Floyd- it has a different, stiffer feel. It does, however, stay in tune extremely well, as good as the Edge. Just make sure you have the saddles radiused properly.

Oh- an Original Floyd, as well as Floyd Rose Pro have a smaller footprint than an Ibanez Edge- therefore an Original Floyd or Floyd Rose Pro will drop in with no routing. Matter of fact you'll have extra space

Cheers for the help, it looks like tough un - i'll have to sleep on it. As for the trem, the knife edges have gone and the posts aren't for behind the the trem bar keeps falling out and i've replaced the plastic collars on it and a couple of the locking screws at the rear of the trem have almost lost the hexagonal allen key shape.

Re: Original Floyd Rose vs the edge

From what i know the Gotoh unit fits directly in. Even the posts from the Gotoh screw right in the Edges posts. A floyd will need different posts. O have one and tried to put it in my Ibanez Roadstar II

The gotoh is virtually the same as the OFR. Whereas the Ibanez is made of hardened steel or something. It is a good trem but doesnt have the brass block as the gotoh and OFR have. I think thats the way it is if i am not mistaken
