I remember seeing a Duncan Invader in the music store way back, when my buddy was buying a Ibanez Iceman...
The one with the original alen screws....but the Duncan timeline says 81....thinking this was late 77 or so....
have also seen where some BC Rich guitars came with them in 78....

Re: original invader

The Invader was officially introduced in 1981. It's possible production started sometime in 1980, before the 1981 catalog was issued, but certainly not earlier than that.

Re: original invader

The one thing to consider is that we could have done anything as a one-off custom build for someone prior to 1980. An old story I heard about the Invader is that we originally called it the Darth Vader.......until a Cease & Desist arrived from Lucasfilms, at which point the name was changed to the Invader. I haven't been able to confirm that this is true yet, but it's a fun story either way.

Re: original invader

HA! The "Darth Vader"...totally fitting for the time. After all, Lord of the Rings...err "Strings"...wasn't out yet!

Thing is, the OP is saying he saw them for sale a few years earlier than they were introduced. Scott, can you find out more about any B.C. Rich guitars in the late-'70s coming with them?
