here's the official description of the S-Standard and S-Deluxe:
S-DELUXE
The S-Deluxe is our top of the line Strat-style pickup. It is the companion to the Danny Gatton Tele pickups (the T-Neck and the T-Bridge). The tone of the S-Deluxe is absolutely Strat in character, but with greatly expanded fidelity and balanced frequency response. Of course, hum and noise are completely eliminated.
This pickup is incredibly sensitive, giving you a wide range of tones and output levels simply by adjusting the distance of the pickup from the strings. With this setup the "in-between" positions are wonderfully hollow, and the bridge pickup has the strength, snap, and twang typically reserved only for Telecasters. The unique staggered-blade design of the bridge pickup, common to all Joe Barden single-coil sized bridge pickups, eliminates drop-outs on the outer strings.
S-STANDARD
The S-Standard is an S-Deluxe with flat blades instead of arched blades. This pickup is meant to be used inside a stock pickup cover (nothing comes through the holes of the cover, but the area behind the holes is solid black, so that from a short distance away, the guitar looks stock).
This pickup is for players who want to preserve the original appearance of their guitar while getting most of the performance of an S-Deluxe. The output and sensitivity of the S-Standard is slightly less than the S-Deluxe, but the tone, fidelity, and absence of noise remain the same.
