out of phase or parallel or, ...

I installed a Hot Strat Strat as a middle pickup with a toggle switch, respectively hum - spilt.
The neck pickup will be a true single coil and I was wondering which setting the Hot Strat Strat would be the less noisy while using it neck - middle?
My 1st guess is out of phase, but here I'm not quite sure.

Split will be less noisy in postion 4. (Neck - middle).

Firstly you have to try it to see if it sounds good, and you need to wire the pickups in-phase using the correct polarity. However that is not a simple thing unless knowing which pickups you are using.

right, you want it split and probably in phase. what cancels hum is being out of phase, but if the neck is reverse wound and reverse polarity from the split coil, youll get hum cancelling and itll sound good.
