Out of Phase Test?

I just installed a P90 sized humbucker (GFS, not Seymour) and to my ears it sounds very anemic compared to the neck position which is still a P90. I'm wondering if the P90 is really just that much louder or if the GFS is wired out of phase (I used the including diagram, but I have received a pickup that was color coded wrong in the past).

Is there any way to check to see if the coils are in parallel or series without just trying every possible wiring combination?

Out of phase sound is very characteristic.
If it sounds: weak, thin, nasal, hollow and honky, you got your pickups out-of-phase (at least, parallel out-of-phase).

Re: Out of Phase Test?

Out of phase between the two coils of the same humbucker has almost zero output. That is unlikely. It would also cause double hum.

Do you have 4-conductor or do you have a 2-conductor and suspect it as been wired incorrectly internally?

+1 you will also hear a slight tonal change in the "honk" if you slightly roll back your volume if the pickups are on separate volume pots. If you post some pics we will be able to help you out much more.

^ He's talking about the one pickup being weak, not it being weak in the middle position - ie the bridge pickup is somehow wired wrong.

How is it wired, what colours do you have soldered where (if its a 4 conductor), and how have you made the series connection?

And what model of pickup did you buy, and which p90 did you already have.
