What would be a rule of thumb on how you'd need to change the gain of your outboard gear ( amp, pedals, modeler, mixer ) based on low versus high pickup height? Let's say the pole pieces are all at default or near flush with the top of the pickups. 10 % change on average, 50%, 100% ??
I just installed the Everything Axe Lil 59 neck, Duckbucker middle and JB Jr bridge , replacing low output Lace Sensor Golds. The guitar tech that did the install told me he set all three for equal output in single coil ( split ) mode. Seemed quite hot and was getting odd tones ( stratitis? ) . I now think I could have cured most of that by simply lowering mids, treble and presence on my amp ---- these pickups shouldn't have a ton of magnetic pull as I understand the magnets/coils are at the bottom of the pickups.
What I actually did was lower them considerably, which cured the bad tones but appears to have lowered the output to the amp more than I'd like.
