Ovation CK047

Re: Ovation CK047

I have had two of their guitars and I liked them both. I thought the necks were good... it was an easy transition between playing electric and playing an acoustic. They tend to sound better plugged in compared to unplugged. Over all they are pretty good guitars.

Re: Ovation CK047

I'd get one. Mid-depth bowl is cool size, and the things are well built. Not the greatest "acoustic" sound, but they are meant to be plugged in. My 247 sounds awesome through my zoom acoustic pedal and out my crate. And it feels really good. Sturdy solid neck that appeals to the shred dude in me. Easy to go back and forth to electric, and I use light strings and amplify. It's a sturdy thing as well.

Re: Ovation CK047

I love the look and sound of Ovation, but can't buy the one I want in Left Hand. So it's another guitar I'll never own.

Re: Ovation CK047

Its the most "cheapest" korean model that I could find from Ovation. In that price range (or maybe a bit lower price range) do you think that maybe Takamine or Ibanez make better acoustic guitars?

Re: Ovation CK047

Yeah. I believe it's made for them by the KHL Corp. Personally I'd buy a Takamine or Yamaha in that price bracket. Have friends who've had both, and very happy.

Re: Ovation CK047

Hm... Well in that price range I could get Takamine EG523 i think... I don't have great knowledge in acoustics so that is why I am asking, can those guitars for ex. that ovation or this takamine and acoustic guitars in that range (or a bit lower) be good for recording and playing live? For recording I would strictly use cable and plug guitar in, so preamp on guitar is also important thing. Any advice?

Re: Ovation CK047

I've looked at the spec's. I 'know' the Takamine piezo system and it's fine, and I respect their guitars as a brand. It's also a pretty good lookin' guitar IMHO [and I'm fussy about the look of acoustics].

Judging by what I 'see' it'll sound pretty good any which way but broken!

Re: Ovation CK047

So I should aim Takamine guitars, okay tnx for advice pal ;) Also what is "real" difference between dreadnought and jumbo guitars?

Re: Ovation CK047

Just had this discussion with a friend. If I'm going cheap acoustic - Yamaha, seagull, or Ovation. Ibanez and Dean are not bad second choices. and again, the Ovation is for dedicated electric players where sturdy & amped are key factors.

Re: Ovation CK047

I know an Ovations are durable. When I was going on vacation I left it in the back of a fully packet truck with a topper on it. For 4+ hours and the heat was in the upper 90's. The only thing protecting it was a gig bag. When I unpacked it was still in tune. The only thing wrong with it was the glue loosened around the sound hole so the decorative piece of plastic was starting to come of. A nice firm push and everything was a ok.

Re: Ovation CK047

Yep, definitely one of the nice things about Ovations is their consistency. You don't have to worry about having humidity treated cases/rooms like you would with a Martin or a Taylor. I've had my 1771LX for a few years and while it doesn't get a lot of use (I'm mostly an electric guy), it does a pretty decent acoustic tone plugged into something decent.

The shape! I can't say I feel a difference in sound. My two are variations of the Jumbo.

Re: Ovation CK047

I have an ovation 1778t elite. I got it for like $450 new. U should get a better model if u can. nothin like the expression "played out like a cheap guitar"...that said I love bashing my $50 gretch 3/4 scale beater I got brand new!

Re: Ovation CK047

Ive heard the Adamas (very expensive) has awefull wolf notes on he 12th fret. I'd buy a Glenn Campbell, or a cheapie, but i would not spende money on an 'Ovie' when i could buy a Gibby for the same coste.

Re: Ovation CK047

We are getting off topic boys! The line here is low cost....

Just like electrics, there are a lot more higher quality (not "high" but better than jusnk/functional) acoustics these days. Takes more effort to find than an elecric of decent quality/low price, but they ar out there. I think low end Ovations are one of the price - performers, IF ovation style/ton is what you are about. They are hardly for acoustic purists.

Re: Ovation CK047

Well I would for sure plug guitar in when recording or playing live, maybe just at home when practicing I would play it unplugged etc. So you think that, that Ovation can be good deal for something like that?

Re: Ovation CK047

Make sure you are comfortable with the guitar before you buy. I've known a few people find the shape of the back hard to get along with!

Otherwise... Go for it!

Re: Ovation CK047

Well to be honest it really annoys me that "back" of guitar when I am sitting as it can slips like it would fall somewhere, cannot explain really, but I like that back as its less prone to damage or scratch of any kind ;)
