P-90 Magnet Question

I have a Godin LG P90. Great guitar but I've always felt that the stock SD P-90s in it were a little too high-output for me- even after making height adjustments. Especially the bridge.

I followed some recommendations from Blueman in an old thread and swapped the stock ceramic magnets and it sounds way better. Less output, tighter bottom end and the neck is a little brighter. (Thanks Bluman!) I now have A5s in the neck and A4s in the bridge. One question though. The original magnets had some kind of rubbery gray glue on them. Anybody know what the glue is and whether I need to worry about opening the pickups again and gluing them? Will the pickups be microphic without it?

Thanks.

Re: P-90 Magnet Question

No need for the glue, in my experience. I've swapped magnets in a bunch of P-90s and never had them go microphonic on me from not gluing the new mags in.

Re: P-90 Magnet Question

No one needs to glue any mags, at most you can use a few small chips of wax to seat it. I've swapped mags in many HB's and P-90's, and the residual wax has always been enough.
