P-Rail size issue

I just got a P-Rails trembucker and the windings bulge out on the sides (one side mostly) beyond the width of the pickup face. Because of this I will need to send it back because although the face fits, the body will not fit through the opening in my pickguard, and I would not be able to raise and lower it. Did I just get an oddball, or are they all like that? I'd like to order another and see if it fits better, but I don't want to waste the time if that's the way they all are.

Would you mind posting a picture? I’m not sure I fully get what you mean.

I have an uninstalled Prail right now and while there is a lot in there, the windings don’t go beyond the face.

It's definitely out of spec from the SD technical drawing which shows the width as 2.740" +/- .005". (The spec'd size would fit through my pickguard without issue.)

My calipers measure the max width at 2.8625 and the faceplate alone as 2.775 (which is slightly out of spec but would still fit). Here's a pic:

the 2.775 seems ok, but mine doesnt bulge out that much. id say its fine but if it doesnt fit, then it doesnt fit

It's on the end where the coil wires are typically spliced to the lead wires. If you have experience with this you could take off the coil tape and see if you could make the splices thinner or tuck them in-between the two coils better. If that's something you don't feel comfortable doing then you have two choices...file out your pickguard slightly on that end until it fits, or return it (explain why you're returning it and ask them to find one for you that doesn't have that bulge).

I had a Black Winter trembucker that was unusually bulbous on the side where the internal coil wires were spliced together and it limited adjustment in the same way. Sent it back and the replacement was just fine.
