P-Rails clean

My guess is that's series. Sounds pretty hot with a tad of cluck. But more in a series way, not in a jangly parallel way.

Doesn't sound like parallel at all...too much body in the tone. But it sounds too crisp and jangly in the top end for series. Depending on his guitar's natural tone and his settings, it COULD be series, but my guess would be P-90.

I see why Clint says series and Doc P90. I agree it is very articulate for series. I would say P90 but maybe it could be series and sound like that because it has been really lowered.

Interesting case haha. Also the mini toggle nearest the neck is in the up position while the back one is in middle position. It could be a series, split, parallel switch. Or not. What makes me think the sound is series is the grind it has. He's playing direct yet it's really full and grindey. Playing direct with any type of single coil usually is the opposite of that - thinner and more rigid. Dunno for sure tho. We ruled out rail only and parallel that's for sure.

Can't listen the vid attentively now but FWIW, the guitar played appears to have a switchable active electronic:

More details about the HDR system there: https://godinguitars.com/h-d-r

Visually, the two switches seem to be in the P90 position.

EDIT - At very low volume through lap-top speakers (and with family + friends laughing behind) I don't hear much what is going on but the HDR ssytem reminds me what happens with a Stratoblaster (single transistor preamp cancelling the effect of cable capacitance and boosting more or less the output level)...

Ah ha. The case is cracked then. The neck switch is in the up position which means P90 according to the guitar demo. He probably has some kind of fx on it in the daw such as verb or an amp sim.

Thank you very much for catching all that. Cool that the model comes with the mini 3-ways. I think that is the key. Listening to the HDR, I don't think it's on, as it seems to thicken the sound (but maybe, could be). The original clip seemed clear to me and not too thick and very much like an old ES-335 type of sound (any body to the sound I would have thought was the solid body of the guitar influencing the sound).

The P-Rail frequently gets cited as being thick sounding (in series) but people say the P-90 on it is excellent - but I've only read about the P-Rail and never heard what people were talking about. That's why I really wanted to find out. This was the only clip I've heard of the P-Rail.

I would have guessed Series turned down, P90, and NOT Parallel.

But I could;ld be wrong - and clearly was...

It thickens the tone because it makes it louder. But a frequency analysis of a same sequence with and without it suggests that it extends the high range above 3hz... just like some buffer eliminating cable capacitance, which would explain why the P90 setting sounds so clear in the original video.

Again, a simple Stratoblaster circuit can do that. And it's not expensive nor difficult to build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5-8FemF3f4
