P-Rails Hot

So, I've been in contact with Scott from Seymour Duncan and he says that the best pickup for me is the P-Rails Hot. Has anyone used it? What does it sound like in Humbucker mode (what pickup does it sound like)?

Re: P-Rails Hot

It doesn't sound like any other pup.

IMO, the P-Rails Hot went too far...hotter wind AND two A8 mags. It sounds very heavy/muddy. Much better with A5 mags. Or, mount it with the rail toward the bridge, put an A5 mag next to the P-90 and leave the A8 next to the Rail. When it first came out, I did a lot of experimenting with it...mag types, orientation. Check my former thread for a very detailed description of that process and my findings. I think it was called..."P-Rails Hot...is it supposed to sound this way", or something like that.

If the guitar you are putting it in is natually a very weak/thin sounding guitar, then the P-Rails Hot may work good for you, but I still think you will have to do some mag swapping to get it to be satisfying.

Re: P-Rails Hot

IMO, yes.

But it really depends on what guitar you are putting them into and how much output you want from your pup. The P-Rails Hot could work out good for you if you want to have high output, but you will lose a lot of clarity and add more mud/distortion.

Generally, you can't go wrong with two regular P-Rails.
