P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

In Jan of 2010 I 'rescued' a pink Squier strat body off of eBay for $40 loaded. Every thing was there except the neck & neck plate/screws.

Didin't do much with it until Jan this year. I bought a Squire Strat Standard neck for it ($90). The standard 3 pickup strat configuration was not someting I need or wanted (I have numourus Strats already). I was looking for a P-90 sound and decided on a set of Seymour Duncan P-Rails SHPR-2 pickups.

Got a set of these pups off of eBay for $180 along with a dual hubucker pickguard and put her together. I had some minor routing to do but it was quite easy. My set-up tech had to shim the neck but it is set up great. I've found that when adding Squier necks to Squire bodies the screw holes never line up so I always plug the screw holes in the neck and redrill based on the neck pocket holes.

I had to plug the pickguard screw holes as the pickguard was for a regular strat. No big deal at all.

She ROCKS! One of my best playing & sounding guitars!

I added Schaller strap locks and a DPDT center off switch (black toggel in the photo) so I can have all three sounds - humbucker, P-90, Strat single coil.

Best I can tell the body is 2003-2006 or so. The neck is a 2005. The P-Rails sure look good in Pink! This is one great sounding guitar!

Welcome to the forum!! Normally I wouldnt be real keen on pink, but your choice of pickguard and pups make it look good!!

Re: P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

Thanks guys! I've been using Seymour Duncan pickups since the early 90's and I have 21 SD pickups installed in various guitars/basses. You might say I like them!

Re: P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

Very nice.

To get a better/different sound from the bridge pup, you might try turning the P-Rail around with the rail coil toward the bridge. I found that this made a world of difference...made the rail sound more like a rail should, and made the series humbucker sound much cleaner. The parallel humbucking mode was also improved and it gave more of a difference between all of the bridge pickup combinations. Didn't change the P-90 coil sound at all (which is a good thing).

Re: P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

A Hello Kitty decal would be the finishing touch.

Re: P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

I agree. Triple shots, and the Hello Kitty sticker.

Great - now I have total Squier gas. Dangit.

I have to say that is awesome again...

Re: P-Rails: Pretty in Pink!

That's cool, but I'd have went with a plain white 'guard. Or maybe a black one, or even a pink one.
Awesome though. :)

A pink body, maple neck and black guard?

You just might be crazy...but I like it.
