P-Rails style wiring for regular humbuckers, need help!

Hi everyone!
I'm installing new pickups (jazz/jb set) into my tele. It has only 1 vol and 1 tone controls and I don't want to add any other controls, but I really want to have series/parallel/split for both pickups.
It is possible with 2 push/pulls using this diagram http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2_prails_1v_1t_tspp
but with regular humbuckers (not p-rails) split doesn't hum-cancelling in both pickups mode. Is it possible to modify this diagram to be humless in split+both pickups mode?

This one does not have parallel coils, so it's not suitable

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that P-Rails are hum-canceling in either rail or P-90 mode... only in series and parallel. In any case, the diagram you found will work with normal humbuckers. The only bummer about that setup is that you can't decide to "mix & match" the pickups (like if you wanted the series humbucker in the bridge and a split from the neck). It will always be 2 of the same style (series, parallel, split north, split south).

I've never tried P-Rails, but according to this article http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/the-p-rails-wiring-bible-part-1/ they suppose to be

"P-Rails are different to most humbuckers. In a normal humbucker, a screw coil will always cancel with a slug coil – whether from the same pickup or another humbucker. However, with the P-Rails, they’re set up so that the same coils will cancel each other’s hum. So two P-90s together will cancel hum, as will two rail coils."

For hum-cancelling when both pickups are selected and in Split mode, there are two options.

1) Arrange for the split mode to select one stud coil and one screw coil.

2) Rotate the bar magnet of one of the humbuckers and connect the conductors wires for each coil in reverse.

Swap black and white.

Swap red and green.

2 Push-Pulls and a 5-way blade will only get you so far, and not wanting to add more controls doesn't make things that require them possible.

This should get you Series/Parallel and splitting for each pickup, but you'll need a 5-way switch and won't get Coil Swap.

Re: P-Rails style wiring for regular humbuckers, need help!

The solution was to swap red with black and white with green on one pickup (but on both push-pulls).
This makes no difference in series or parallel modes but both split modes became hum-cancelling, because when one humbucker splits to slug coil - the other splits to screw (and vice versa)

Are the pickups still in phase when you do that? I would think to do this and have them be in phase a magnet would need to be flipped.

Re: P-Rails style wiring for regular humbuckers, need help!

Yes, pickups are in phase. I've swapped north start with south finish (and so on). Turning magnet is not needed, because 4 wires are north start, north finish, south start and south finish. It gives all avaliable combinations of wiring. Turning magnet not gives any other options

Oh cool! I learned something today!
