P-rails wiring hell

I'm putting these is a strat pickguard so i wont be using the triple shots. Can i accomplish the same thing by using a Super 5-way switch plus (1) 3 way toggle? i will have 1 vol, 1 tone, 1 mini toggle, 1 Super 5-way. I want to be able to use series/parallel/split p90/split rail. I dont need to combine different combinations when the 2 pickups are used together, meaning i can have both pickups with rails, both pickups with p90, or both in series/parallel. I dont need bridge rail with neck p90. if you know what i mean. Please help!!

Re: P-rails wiring hell

No matter how many poles a five-way lever superswitch has, it can only offer five sounds.

If your project guitar has just twin P-Rails and no centre pickup, you can make the mode selections using two push-pull pots. Your selector switch will be a regular three-way lever, wired neck/both/bridge like a Telecaster.

Re: P-rails wiring hell

i was afraid of that. i hate strat knobs with push pull, i cant get a grip on them but i must have them cause they look best

Re: P-rails wiring hell

You could have a three way switch and a single three-way mini toggle if you're prepared to sacrifice parallel mode?

Re: P-rails wiring hell

Actually P-Rails parallel mode is a definate must. Everyone raves about the P-Rails in parallel. I'm pretty sure that with a 5 way Super Switch and a 3 way toggle i could accomplish what i need. I'll have to tinker around with it

Re: P-rails wiring hell

Adding humbucker style mounting surrounds on a Stratocaster scratch plate always looks ungainly.

In my opinion, the time has come for Seymour Duncan to offer ready-to-go Stratocaster scratchplates cut for HH and HSH pickups and with Triple Shot style switches mounted next to the H cut-outs. In the final analysis, the system is only two PCBs. How difficult could it be to manufacture? (Doubtless, this will be expensive.)

Re: P-rails wiring hell

What are you planning to put in each position of the 5-way switch, and what effect will the toggle have on each of those combinations?

Re: P-rails wiring hell

another alternative might be to use triple shots and you could rout out extra space on the pickguard for them.

The 5 way as others have posted will only offer you five tones which could still be cool you'd just have to decide which tones you want, if it were me I'd do bridge p90, bridge series, both rail coils, neck parallel, neck p90.

Pretty much you will have to wire in push pulls or a few switches.

Re: P-rails wiring hell

I'd either install the Triple Shot anyhow, or just use two toggle switches to do the same thing.

Here is a Strat with pickup rings:

I didn't say that they would not fit - just that they look ungainly.
