P-rails wiring reverse?

Hello SD Forum,

Since watching Frank Falbo's video on Youtube, I have since replaced my Jazz/JB pickups with P-rails bridge and neck.

I have followed the wiring on the following link
http://www.seymourduncan.com/pdfs/support/schematics/2_prails_2v_2t_3w_2pp.pdf

and I do get all the different tones ( twangy rails, rough P-90's, heavy humbuckers) which is phenomenal. Hearing it,however, it seems that the putting the 3-way switch to rythm, I get the bridge pickup while to treble, I get the neck pickup ( ie, the controls are reversed). I have checked the wiring and it matches with the diagram.

Looking at the diagram, I would like to confirm that the black wire from the bridge pickup goes to the neck volume pot while the neck pickup goes to the bridge control pot. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance,
Shazli

Looking at the diagram it seems that is indeed showing the neck black connected to bridge volume and bridge black to neck volume. So when you adjust the vol for neck it's actually adjusting the bridge, yes? It should be easy enough to switch the black wires and connect them to their appropriate volume pot.

Hermetico beat me to it.

Re: P-rails wiring reverse?

Yikes. What's really confusing is that in "rails" mode the 3-way operation is fine. Simply switch the black lead wires and all should be fine. You may also want to PM Frank Falbo and make him aware of the error so that they can correct the diagram.

Re: P-rails wiring reverse?

Thanks guys. It was weird while I was wiring it up but I thought there was some trick which I was not aware of for P-rails. I hope Frank can fix the diagram soon as I am also wondering if I need to swap the red/white cables(and probably the other cables) to reverse points as welll. :1:

Re: P-rails wiring reverse?

Start with just the black wires, try it again. If operation is normal then it's probably just a typo in the diagram concerning the black leads.

Re: P-rails wiring reverse?

The red and white wires look fine... just the black leads have been swapped. There was another P-Rails diagram that had a very similar "oops" that I found a couple months ago. PM Frank Falbo and he'll fix it. ;)

Re: P-rails wiring reverse?

Thanks Guys,
Now, the controls are working properly although, the pickups seems hotter now. I had to put the volume to 5 to get a clean single coil tone which is good cos putting it to 10 gives me a tough distorted tone.
Also, the push-pull pots works in reverse as putting the bridge volume down splits the coils while pulling it up puts them in humbucker mode and Frank hasn't replied to my PM too.
