P/U's for a Hamer SATQ

Just picked one up for $324.00. Very pretty, not sure about the core body wood . . . poplar? basswood? (it feels like it responds more like a semi hollow, more "airy" than a solid mahogany body). It has the Duncan Designed p/u's now; actually a pretty nice, mellow sound that responds nicely to touch, but I need a bit more variety in sound. I'm looking to gut the electronics and start over:

-500k push/pull volume pot (master coil split) w/the Kinman treble bleed circuit
-2 phase reversal switches to allow either coil in single coil mode = 3 out of phase tones
-TBX master Tone control w/.047 mf cap
-Torres Engineering Super Midrange/tone control as a master midrange control.

I know Hamer uses the '59 on their USA models.

I have a Brian Moore i21 w/ an Alnico 2 Pro neck and Pearly Gates bridge also custom wired (yeah, that's it over there on the left). This guitar can do just about anything (coil split, either coil, phase, TBX tone). With the master tone control, I tend to have to make adjustments between the neck and bridge p/us, but the neck warmth really sings with o/d-distortion, and the PG bridge sounds great clean or distorted.

At first, I was considering duplicating the p/u's, but I might want something a little different; maybe bit more clarity in the neck but still with some warmth?

I'm sold on the Pearly Gates bridge as I'm sure that pickup can just about read my mind, but who knows?

For the neck, I'm torn between the Alnico 2 Pro, 59, Jazz, and Pearly Gates neck. Oh, and I'm ordering them with nickel covers, any suggestions/preferences?

Thanks

Brett

For something different- go with a set of Phat Cats-
I just picked one of these up also- well, 2 really-
One has the Phat Cats in it, the other has some Gibson pups I had in a drawer-
Now, I plan to leave the good stuff at home, and use these 2 for live work.

Have an epi Les Paul gold top that might get the phat cats. Curious abut those. Right now, I need the versatility of splittable humbuckers.

the jazz bridge in the neck position is supposed to be great, very articulate, but I haven't tried it so I can't comment. I have a PGn in my les paul and it's a great pickup, but not one of the most articulate pickups, still pretty good though. However, those are all great pickups, you really can't go wrong no matter what you get.

I just got a hAMER SATQ-HB FOR ONLY $279 brand new on hellomusic, probably last year's model. I love this guitar and want to make it as great as possible.

Unsure what to use. One guy wanted me to use Duncan Distortions, but when i tried it out on his Gibson, it was the only pickup and the amp was a killer tube amp, and it sounded great, but I didnt know if it was the amp or the guitar or the pickup that cause the sound, or all 3.

if i used a Duncan '59, should i consider using the new hybrid?

While I have several guitars, this Hamer is easily my favorite and I want to make it as great as possible.

is a '59 and SH1 as great as possible?

Also, I've seen a few online at ebay, and unsure to trust both ebay and used pickups. Do they last forever, or is there a lot to worry about?

As a disabled Navy SEAL, I only have about $300 free each month, so I cant get the amazing Les Pauls or other expensive models. I get great deals on www.hellomusic.com. and got my HAMER for only $279, and my G&L for $325. So when i upgrade, I cant afford to hire another job out, so it needs to be one time forever. At age 52, forever means 20 yrs, LOL.

Last year's model is all that there is. The model and the brand are discontinued.

A '59n/JB pair would work. I like a Pearly Gates N pickup.

Those Hamers go quite nicely with active pickups, too. Through the right amplification, a SD AHB-2 Blackout B and Live Wire Classic II N pair would cover most genres.
