P90 Conundrum

Just fitted a low output BareKnuckles P90 into a tele ….I changed the vol pot to 500k and put a resistor on the selector switch for the bridge unit to help it function correctly with the changed vol pot. However I think the resistor maybe detrimental to the bridge unit and as the output on the neck unit is only around 6.5 , would a reversal to a standard 250k pot work ok ?

Re: P90 Conundrum

Also take the tone pot and attach it only to the bridge pickup. You'll get extra neck high end but retain the ability to adjust the bridge for bite.

Re: P90 Conundrum

Well, compared to a 500k you will lose some precious top end or sparkle. Of course my suggestion of removing the tone circuit from the neck means you'll be a bit better off.

Re: P90 Conundrum

I run 300k pots in m LP Special p90. I don’t hear any significant high end loss.
FWIW, I have 250k’s in my LP Standard too...the difference between these and 500k is small.

Re: P90 Conundrum

Any negative effect on the P90 ?

Not really. Maybe a slight reduction in top end. But it depends on the P-90. The lower wind versions sound fine. Look at Strats and Teles. They have similar wound pickups and have gobs of top end.
