P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

Re: P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

Most people like warmer bridge pickups with briter necks. They balance better than other way round.
I would combine the Distortion with a Duncan Custom P90 SP-90-3n

Re: P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

Custom SP-3....If anything.

P90 and Distortion not necessarily a place I'd go - but hey; If it works for you, go for it.

What are you trying to do? I always hate it when people say "Will it work with this....." and don't tell me how.

Example: Does my T-Top work with my Distortion? Yeah - in the sense that I never use them in the same song, or even the same gig. I play metal on the bridge and I play blues or whatever, and the occasional REO Speedwagon Richrath solo every once and again.

Do I ever combine them, or try to get an awesome tone out of the same amp settings, or expect one to be as loud as the other? No, never.....so yeah it works.

^ I want a pickups set that can play metal & funky rhythms, aka Infectious Grooves type of songs. i’m set on Distortion for heavy riffs but I’m still cannot find a good funky tone for neck. I’ve got the 59 but it doesn’t sound very funky strat-ish. I’m wondering if a P-90 or P-rail can get me in the ball park.

I've used an A5/A3 Phat Cat in the neck of a PRS Custom 22 Semi-hollow with a Parallel Axis Distortion in the bridge with very good results.

Are you looking for a true P90 or a humbucker sized P90?

Re: P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

^ Humbucker size but singlish type of sound with a good level to compliment well a distortion bridge.

Re: P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

I hear the GFS Dream 90 has a single coilish P90 tone. That would be worth a shot. I haven't tried it myself so I can't tell you about output matching.

Re: P90 neck & Distortion bridge?

I have a p90 neck with a bridge JB. They sound great together. Don't let DCR differences cloud your judgement.
