P90 question; P90 stack vs Antiquity

I've limited it down to these two. I like Duncan’s. I've heard the Lollars, Fralins, Wolf, etc. This is for a Epi 339. It's not my main guitar. I don't want to spend a lot of money and have always enjoyed Duncan replacement pickups. That said, I use my amp's distortion (Tech 21 TM60). Foremost, I want a pickup that will clean up with the guitar's volume control. A nice rounded tone, good articulation.
The Duncan P90 (noiseless) Stack looks good on paper. I like noiseless. The Antiquity seems to be a favorite. But I read a lot about it being gritty and dirty. Again, I want the pup to do this BUT, clean up also.
Any of you guys out there played both these guys and can tell me your thoughts, comparisons?

i think the antiquity p90 is great, it sounds great clean and great dirty. i dont care for the stack as much.

Re: P90 question; P90 stack vs Antiquity

I haven't tried the 'stack'. I have the Antiquity P-90 in the neck position of my Fender Aerodyne Telecaster. It is a great pickup fantastic P90 tone. It is louder than the lollar hot wind tele i have in the in the bridge. I think the stack would compromise that classic raw P90 goodness. I sure its a good sounded pickup but for classic P90 tone go with the Antiquity.

The Duncan P90 Stack looks good on paper.

There, in my opinion, its talents end.

To my ears, the options are P90 or noiseless. The two are mutually exclusive.

Perhaps, one day, the Fishman Fluence line will extend to a convincing and noise-cancelling replacement for the P-90?

FunkFingers,
When you say your options are P90 or noiseless (never heard a noiseless I liked), do you mean the Antiquity P90's, I assume so, but you might mean it in a broader sense, like "all P90's vs. all P90's noiseless".
Thanks,

Affirmative.

To date, it EITHER sounds like a P90 OR it is noise-cancelling.

I dare say that, were it not for contractual confidentiality, Frank Falbo could enlighten us on future Fishman Fluence products of this general type.

I agree, p90 stacks sound like a great idea but I've heard some tone demos and it's just not a p90. It seems like an okay pickup alone, but you can't think of it as a p90 because you'll just be disappointed. The antiquities sound amazing in all the tone demos I've heard and a little buzz never killed anyone.

Re: P90 question; P90 stack vs Antiquity

I've narrowed my search down to Antiquities or Wolftone (mean & meaner). What do you guys think?

Re: P90 question; P90 stack vs Antiquity

there are lots of good p90's out there depending on what you want, i have only heard wolftones in other peoples guitar so dont have a great frame of reference
