PA Guys - Comments on this?

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

Any thoughts before I jump all over this????

Either you got a studio, or you got roadies?Thats some serious poundage to be lugging around, even if it doesn't weigh that much cause its cheaper stuff, its still plenty big and bulky! I have some EV's ( '200s' model -look them up) that have some of the best sound ever, and are compact but can handle serious wattage. I'd think about a powered sub like a JBL with some of those compact speakers.

200 a box doesn't sound bad but as MM said.... That rig will weigh plus it's more than you'll need for a bar gig. 'Course the tops might carry the whole load if you don't want to shake the hall with the lowest 2 octaves. Never had any experience with samson though and it seems that line has been discontinuted as B&H and Sweetwater no longer carry.

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

For the money, it's probably a decent deal. I doubt you could find comparable Carvin, Peavey, JBL, Mackie set for twice that. Yes, it will be heavy and you will need help with moving it, but many clubs in my area don't provide a PA, and if that's the case in your area you need SOMETHING. If you can demo it, do it. Get as much info as you can, and if it sounds good, give it a shot.

You still will need a mixer; a good 15- or 31-band EQ for these main speakers; probably XLR mic cables to hook it up (I bought the GC Live Wire Elite cables for my Carvin powered speaker system); and some 12-ga. AC CORDS and boxes. Add a snake if you need to remote mix (and don't scrimp on the snake!)

Finally some good monitors. In-ears are great if you have the dough, otherwise at least a pair of monitor speakers, power amps to run them, speaker cables or mic cables, more EQs, etc. Hopefully, you bought a mixer capable of more than one pre-fader monitor mix. You'll want some efx, like reverb. Many of the new mixers have them built-in; otherwise a piece of rack gear...and the racks to mount it in for travel.

Whew!

It can be daunting, but this could be a good first step. If you have any questions, let me know, I'm happy to advise.

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

You know Bill - I was thinking even if we only use the towers and not the subs….
I could sell the subs if I wanted. There are 5 guys in the band. More than enough muscle to carry it.

And I can find all kinds of boards on Craigslist. I'm also a fan of the sub mixer;
- Little 5 channel for the drums
- another for all the vocal mice except lead
- Use an off board rack processor for echo etc…

Get a digital board like the Behringer, Presonus, or QSC. You will thank me later.

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

I saw one mixer that had digitech amp models
Presonis I think maybe soundcraft
But if your amp fails . Dial in a model and finish the gig
Just flacking awesome

I too am interested in your quest for sound reinforcement

I would look for a mixer with multichannel USB . So that you can send each channel to you PC independent

And remix the live show later for mass consumption

Edit

Oh and that looks heavy
Like Jer said
But I got a deal on mine and resold the parts I didn't need

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

I have to say - I was really thinking more like a couple of powered 15" cabs. I could use for solo acoustic of 5 piece metal….

This thing seems who should we say - excessive. Still, might cover the bands sound needs for whatever.

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

Like Bill . I have powered Carvin 15s and a pair of powered 12s

They guy on Craigslist probably upgraded to something lighter
You probably can get a pair of Carvin speaker s for $800

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

Re-thinking this, I agree with ehdwuld. For several reasons, I think the Carvin PM15A would be a better deal. Lighter and more portable, nice feature set, and new with warranty. I have the older LM15A with the neo woofers, and I love them. I would get the covers; they are very handy and protective. Need some speaker stands until you get subs. I would use this as a vocals-only system until you get subs.

You can add subs later. I have the matching LS1801A subs, also on sale right now. Lightweight, portable and easy set-up with the built-in x-over. The you can mix in drums and bass into your mains. And I really like the PM12AS for monitors! This really is a killer way to go. I like that it's modular; I can add subs or more top boxes or more monitors as my needs change. So I'm currently running 2,200 watts...enough to cover a small club and still have clean headroom.

I liked the Samson system, but the Carvin is NEW and will be so much lighter and more portable. With these speakers on sale, this is a really good deal.

If you decide to do with the Carvin, CALL THEM. Your will probably get a better deal if you get your stands, covers, cables and speakers as a bundle. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: PA Guys - Comments on this?

I'm really looking at what i could do that would
a) Work for the band (5 piece big hair metal playing bars/clubs)
b) Me solo acoustic

So…the Carvin 15's make sense. At that price, awesome. This thing was a a lot of sound that I suppose would be great for club etc. with the band - but I can't see me using it solo. Probably best to pass. Still, I'll go check them out…
