PAF EMGs? Huh???

Re: PAF EMGs? Huh???

I've seen a vid where the new guy out of Judas Priest (I forgot his name) is using them in a Les Paul and they sounded really good imo.

+1

IMO, the new "modelled on vintage" EMGs sound good. Whether they sound EXACTLY like a genuine ol' Gibson unit is another matter.

It could be argued that, regardless of pickup, there is a certain "Les Paul-ness" that will always come through. My #1 LP has P90s. In terms of tone and dynamics, it could never be mistaken for anything other than a Lester.

Richie Faulkner, the first youtube video I posted is the one your talking about....

I like them as well....

Ah. I'm replying from work and couldn't view any of the videos before I made my post.

Re: PAF EMGs? Huh???

I certainly would be interested in some if I had a Gibson or similar that needed a pickup swap. I've always liked EMG's high output pickups.

Re: PAF EMGs? Huh???

I wasn't convinced of their PAF'ness by the Richie Faulkner video - I guess I don't associate classic PAF tones from an LP with an ENGL. They did sound good though. The Frank Johns video sounded a lot closer, but jazzier I guess. It'll be interesting to see what they do when paired up with a Marshall or Fender.

TBH I didn't think they sounded much like PAFs at all! :D

I did like the tone he was getting though.
