Paf Joe & Mo Joe to Duncans

Hi, which Seymour Duncan, full size, humbuckers would sound the most like Dimarzio PAF Joe & Mo Joe pickups?

I'm interested in your feedback on the PAF Joe & Mo Joe (split or full) as well. Thanks

I bought the Dimarzio pickups new, some time ago. Never installed them but thinking about selling to get Duncans. But for the price they'd bring, I probably should try them first. May get the Seth Lover, PG or 59 for similar to Grissom, ZZ Top and Bonamassa tones.

I build my own amps, which are good for the tones. Tested with PRS, HFS bridge and Vintage neck so far and about to check out the Seth Lover set with it soon.

Those Dimarzios are good pickups, but pretty much custom made for Satriani and what he wants to achieve. Since you already have them in hand, I would think that it is worth trying them out (without cutting too short the Mo Joe lead) to see if you like them, and if not, where you'd like to go from there. I tried a set for an alder super strat and decided against them since there weren't big differences between the neck and bridge tones in my guitar.

If you like the Satriani sound, but prefer Duncans, he uses a PG set on one of his JS guitars. I suspect they sound great in basswood. The black guitar he uses in his Live in San Francisco DVD, which is all over youtube, has the PGs in it. You can see the Duncan logo on the pickups on certain frames of the video. Great tone from his Duncans and his Dimarzios.

It is just that those Dimarzios were not for me. There are others I do like a lot.

I have all Duncans except for 1 Mo'Joe that I like a lot. Try it. Sort of Tele meets fat PAF. ;)

i has the paf joe : it has a strat sound in split
and even without the split!! lol
it looks like a sh1 but the sh1 is warmer: i prefer the sh1 for warm sound

mo joe is a fred but with more outpout
i don't know the equivalent in sd:
see the chart tone with the dc resistance
and mp3
sh1 and sh6 will be warmer than dimarzio
sh4 will be good in bridge

Curious Huh? Too many guitars, too many pickups, too many amps and a lot of living in between. There are some things never got around to.

I went through the Duncan Custom, C5, SH-15, Jazz, PG neck, A2P and P Rails in humbucker guitars. I also went through almost every pickup for Tele that Duncan and Dimarzio sells plus Kinmans, Bill Lawrence Keystones among others. On Strats, I tried 80% of the models from Dimarzio and about the same amount of Duncans. I still have boxes and boxes of new pickups, that I have never installed and will probably end up selling because I have pretty much found what I like and the Mo Joe and PAF Joe are among those I never installed. I would like to use them, so I asked this question to see if they compared to anything that I knew I already liked, before selling them and getting more Duncans.

Honestly since you already own the mo and joe just install them why be concerned that they are not duncans.
Last time i checked the duncan police dont break down your door if you use dimarzio's! :approve: LOL

exactly! why did you buy them in the first place just to get rid of them? and why would you want duncans that sound the same as them?? sorry I don't understand :scratchch

oh right I get ya now. I thought you wanted to sell them to get the duncan equivalent.

As stated above, I know I like some of the Duncans. There is no need to install these if they sound thinner than the PG or 59 Duncans and are Tele / Strat like as has been pointed out in some of the useful posts above. I have already explained that logic and the original question was answered. The point has been made that they probably wont get the tone I am looking for.

I could not care less what brand the pickups are, I just used SD pickups as a tone reference in order for someone to answer this post with some experience actual knowledge of how the sets compare in tone, if at all.:thanks:
