Pair JB with 59 type humbucker.

Hello good people,

As many of you I use to play JB+59 combo in my ash body strat with 500k pots. I found 59n having too much bass compared to JB and they don't work together perfectly. I really like the thin PAF style sound of 59, as well as coil-split sound. I'm looking for the same solution, same tone but with less bass frequency. What do you think about 59 bridge version or custom hybrid? Any other options? What about changing pots to 250k?

the bridge version of the 59 will have more bass than the neck version. the reason the 59n sounds so bassy is the physical position of the pickup. there is a lot more string movement near there neck which leads to deeper tones and more output compared to the location of a bridge pup. a similar tone with less bass would be the jazz neck or sentient models.

Definitely don't want a 250k pot. Jazz would be a good choice. But first I would try wiring the 59 in parallel and see how you like that.

most 59's are single conductor so parallel would require opening up the pup

Well, he said he likes the split 59 sound so I assume he has 4 conductor. It also sounds like he is considering buying a 59 (he doesn't make that clear), but in any case he is familiar with the 4 cond. 59 (which IS readily available).

What is A4 or A3?

It's 4 conductor yeah. And I don't like out of phase sounds. What about Dimarzio PAF (PAF 36)? Does it sound close to 59 and how it matches with JB when it comes to inbetween positions and loudness?

Magnets, son. 4 conductor doesn't have anything to do with out-of-phase. You need to read some old threads here and get up to speed. That's how I learned.

OK A is for alnico... But isnt 59n an Alnico 5 pickup? How I'm supposed to change that?

I live for the JB/59 combo with 50s wiring and 500k pots..
I am in the middle of doing my newest Les Paul with a JB and 57 Classic and coil taps and 300k pots with Silver Russian PIOS in .022 I just got.
I have never tried that before and I am going to go that route first before 50s wiring..
All the 4 conductor does is split the coils.. I am not super fond of it but it is kinda cool sometimes for those clean jangly tones for country that is
a little meatier than a Strat..
