Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

Hello Folks!

Just received a PB Trem. for my Alder/Maple San Dimas few days ago, still thinking for a neck humbucker that has a lower output and cool split tones....

I was thinking about a 59 bridge, but I just came across the Screamin' Demon neck talk!

Has anyone tried this combo?

Any other tips would be appreciated!

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

For how articulate the PB is supposed to be I would probably recommend the jazz Neck. I had the 59N in for a bit but felt it was a bit muddy under certain situations. I like the Jazz much better. What is your setup and what sounds are you trying to achieve?

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

I know Jazz is good, but still looking for something that is fatter when split..

I'm lookin' for versatile super strat tones that goes from jazz to blues to 80s metal.
I'm mostly playing through the clean channel of a Randall combo, sometimes with a distortion pedal or a half-cocked wah

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

My guess is that the Demon in the neck would overpower the PB in the bridge.

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

I had the demon in the neck for a bit but it was too strong. Would prob work well with a high gain bridge pup but I think it would be too strong for the pb.

Whole lotta humbucker neck. You need some mids for it to sound "fatter" when split. The 59 and jazz don't have much in that dept. although in my opinion the Jazz does a convincing single coil sound when split in the neck slot.

Out of curiousity, have you had trouble fitting any of the duncans you tried in the charvel? I have the same guitar and the Distortion didn't fit; the cavity was too shallow.

Thank you guys, now I'm not considering SD for my neck position anymore!

Whole Lotta is not my cup of tea for a superstrat. I may reconsider a bridge 59/Jazz humbucker for the neck, they should have a close DC to the Whole Lotta and more mids...

You're right Jeff, the cavity is noticeably small. I had problems when trying to put any humbucker with a metal cover, not only duncans..

Probably your Distortion has a metal cover, just take it off and wrap it with pickup tape if you want.

Actually, I know the Duncan Distortion (regular and trem) does not fit, ended up with a PATB-2 which did. As for the neck, the dimarzio liquifire fits. Kind of annoying as i want to get another san dimas and try out the black winter but according to its dimensions, it won't fit :(

TB-6 has the same dimensions of TB-4 that comes as a stock bridge in MIJ San Dimas. Check their dimensions yourself.

I'm not sure about the dimensions of the Black Winter, but I think that It has the same dimensions, too.

The magnets in a Distortion and Black Winter are thicker than most humbuckers, making the pickups a bit taller.

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

do you have a mij or Mia or mim charvel?

My guitar is MIA, a 2008 model

The main problem with San Dimas cavities that they are small in length/width wise, routed to almost fit an uncovered trembucker...

I' don't think that a little thicker magnet will make a difference in this case.

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

Anybody knows which neck model is put in Becker's "Numbers" signature??

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

I'd say Jazz as well. If you want a fatter split tone, maybe consider a parallel/series instead of coil split. Listen to this demo here, the sounds start at 3:05. Parallel is a bit thicker than the single coil, but it sounds like that is what you want plus it is still hum bucking.

The Numbers has another PB in the neck.

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

I have PATB-3 / Demon in my LP and I don't have real problem balancing them. So I'd say you can balance PB and Demon more easily. '59/Custom in the neck would overpower PB.

This is +1 for the Jazz, Thanks Aasinsilta!

I can imagine the beauty of SD on a LP neck!

Re: Pairing the Perpetual Burn!

Demon is awesome and would pair up fine with a PB. I currently have a demon paired with and S-Deco which is around the same
output as a PB.....no troubles. Actually, my S-Deco neck model is wound over 11k with an A5 magnet:
technically "hotter" than the demon and again, no troubles.
