Re: Parallel Axis in PRS
Crazy 8 is a particular sound, underwound with A8 magnet. Bright and punchy, but without ceramic harshness.
How hot a bridge pickup are you looking for? If you want all-out mayhem, the PATB-2 Parallel Axis Distortion is awesome. It's a woollier, more compressed Distortion, with a thicker growl. But sings for solos, amazing for fat riffs, and depending on tastes, still punchy enough for thrash rhythm.
If you want a beefed up PAF, the PATB-3 Blues Saraceno is terrific. Hot, but open. Similar sound to a Brobucker but with extended high frequencies.
The PATB-1b Original Parallel Axis is a nice high output. It's similar to a Custom 5, but the high end is smoother. The Parallel Axis design makes it sing somewhat like a JB, with great harmonics but without the insane upper midrange focus.
For all of them I'd recommend the PATB-1n neck. Though if you prefer a hotter neck pickup opposite the PATB-2, some have used a PATB-3 in the neck. You'd have to order from the custom shop to get it wound on a neck spacing if you want it to line up perfectly, though.
I have a PATB-1b in my Ibanez RG570, and it's a ridiculously flexible pickup, extremely responsive to tone & volume changes at the guitar, as well as ridiculously responsive to pick attack. Dig in and the attack hardens up, lighter touch and it smoothes out.
Hope that helped!
