parallel or out of phase

Hi guys!

I just need a little information regarding the wiring of a single humbucker: Essentially, what would the DC resistance be should I wire a humbucker (let's say originally at 16k in series by itself) to be out of phase with itself, and how would this compare to the output (DC resistance) of a hum that is wired in parallel? Which would be thicker overall?

Thanks. :)

Re: parallel or out of phase

If you wire it to be in series with the coils out of phase, the resistance will be identical to wiring it normally (in series and in phase).

Re: parallel or out of phase

The parallel wiring would be around 4k. But the parallel would be louder & thicker than the series OOP wiring (though not as loud & thick as the in phase series wiring).

Re: parallel or out of phase

Thanks for all the input. I presumed the parallel would be beefier due to my experience with Strats, but the numbers on paper point to out-of-phase as having a greater resistance. In the past, I've tried two humbuckers or single coils out-of-phase, and they generally were too nasal. The ears know best! :laugh2:

Re: parallel or out of phase

Actually, if its 16k in series, it will become 8k in parrallel. Two identical resistances in parrallel divide in half.
