I just picked up an old 60's Hilgen guitar amp, my 3rd one this month, and only one of the tone pot's taper is backwards Do I simply reverse the connections to the outer lugs, leave the middle, and I'm in business?

Note that "taper" being backwards is different than the pot being wired backwards. Does clockwise increase, or decrease, the high-end?
