Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

Hey I'm looking to upgrade some gear, but unfortunately I don't know what to upgrade first. I am too poor to upgrade both so I have to go one at a time. My choice is to upgrade my guitar to a Parker Nitefly, or maybe a Jackson Soloist, or upgrade my amp to a Marshall stack. Right now I have an old Jackson for a guitar (I like Jacksons) and for a my amp I'm playing a Crate GFX-1200H head with a GX412XR half-stack. Any opinions on what I should do?

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

I remember a similar situation with someone, the majority said he should go with the new amp first, that would be my opinion too..That is also what i did..
The general way thing go is , excellent guitar >> mediocre amp = Mediocre sound.. But mediocre guitar >>> Excellent amp = very good sound...
I first bought my marshall DSL 50 and used my aria strat copy coincidenytally today when i got my new peavey wolfgang..but im glad i did that because my strat copy did me until i could afford the new wolfie and my aria sounded much better through my DSL50 than my Wolfie does through my crappy kustom 10watt...

But ultimatly its up to what you want, if you really want the parker then go with the parker...

And welcome to the board!

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

I see what you mean, I guess I should go playing around with my guitar on other amps and then bring my amp and play on a Parker, and then choose by that.

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

Could I just replace the GFX-1200H head with a Marshall head and use my current stack and be happy?

Im not up on the play with any of the Crate stuff, do you know what type of speakers they use in your cab?
If you were to upgrade your head it would be a step in the right direction,
then if you thought your speakers were letting u down u could upgrade them
when your bank balance lets you........ down the track.
What head are you looking at??

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

Another vote for the marshall head. You can take the extra money and buy new speakers for the crate cab and put in some Duncans into your jackson probably. That would upgrade your tone considerably.

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

Straight from the website the speakers are:

The GX412XR is a compact cabinet loaded with four 12" Crate drivers. It features 100 watt RMS handling, straight front, dual 1/4" input jacks, heavy duty construction, and cloth grille.

Player Type: Designed for home/studio use, the GX412XS features attractive cloth grilles and rugged constructions. These cabs are for semi-pro/pro gigging musicians serious about their tone. They deliver outstanding clarity, depth, tone, ane reliability.

Well they should do the job for you for a while, a new head will certainly make them sound better for now. Dont worry if you cant get everything u want straight away...
Good things take time, just think of them as stepping stones.
Head then Cab then the guitar you want.
Then you wil have a killer rig!
Not something you are semi happy about....
What pup's are in your jackson?

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

While I'm officially a huge Parker fan myself, I still say go with the Marshall.

You already know you love your guitar, your Jackson, so it seems to me the weakest link is your Crate. Crate makes decent stuff, but if you want a Marshall, then you're looking tonally at a different ballgame.

Parker makes killer guitars and I've been tossing around a bunch of models/options myself. It's much easier to play anything through a good amp than to have to play a great guitar through an amp that can't do it justice.

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

I'd suggest you get a Marshall head, specifically, a JCM900. They have a great, smooth distortion that really sounds great. I don't know what they sound liek compared to a JCM800, cuase, I've never tried one, but they sound lightyears better than the JCM2000's (imo) and Plexis, but, that's just cuase the Plexi's don't distort.

Light years better than a DSL or TSL Head......
Hmmmmmm Light years behind maybe :13:

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

I thought the JCM 900 had slightly harsher tone in comparison to the JCM 800 series? I could be incorrect on that.

Either way, I love on band that uses those heads... The Juliana Theory.... and they sound awesome. It's primarily a distortion head though, so for cleans... you'll want some reverb or chorus to spruce it up a bit.

yes, both the TSL and DSL have harsh, trebley distortion. Although, I wouldn't turn them down.

And the only reason I suggested it over the plexi was becuase the plexi's are primarily clean.

Re: Parker Nitefly or Marshall Stack?

What do you guys think of the Fender ROC PRO 1000 Head?? I haven't had a chance to go out and play on many tube heads so I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me advice before I do.

Edit: Ack it's a hybrid and I'm looking for an all tube...
