Parkers

Anyone here have a Parker ? I am thinking about a Nite fly. I need to go to the store and hopefully they will have one to play. I really don't want to buy sight unseen. Give me the pros and cons.

Re: Parkers

I have a Nitefly-M, Stephen/LesStrat on the forum has had Flies and Niteflies, Sporky McGuffin has the same model as I've got.. That's as far as I know.

I love mine. The playability is really like butter - smooth little thing! I was not fond of the original pickups (but they were great for clean stuff, just not with a lot of gain), so I swapped them out. I've got a Jazz(b) in the neck and a C8 in the bridge now. The tremolo is really smooth too, along with the G&L trem, it is the favorite trem I've tried (although that's not too many, I've never tried a Floyd for example..).

Pros:
- playability!
- (now), sound
- a different look
- the neck holds up over a long time before you'll need to adjust it
- the tuning stability was amazing the first months I had it. I struggle a bit more now, but that's got more to do with my inability to set it up right, I think

Cons:
- a little more difficult swapping pickups and such, than your typical Strat
- not great original pickups
- a different look (whether this should be a pro or con depends on your taste of course..)
- the upper horn might be bother you, it's in my way sometimes, but it's not something I have put a lot of frustration into.

I have just gotten up from bed, so I'm not all that awake. I might input more here later..

Re: Parkers

My experience with Parkers are limited to the import PM20PRO and if I had the money at the time it would simply have been mine. Amazing guitar.

Re: Parkers

I've had the chance to play the Mojo Fly, and it was easily the best guitar I've played. The neck was perfect, quite thin, but not too thin. It's extremely light weight, but it retains great tone. You could honestly do anything with this guitar. Top quality build, carbon glass fretboard, neck-thru, sperzel tuners, Jazz/JB set with push pull coil splitting, Piezo system. Really what more could you ask for? Honestly I don't have anything bad to say about this guitar. If you have the money, buy it.

Oh, and the new Mojo Midi is a beast!

Re: Parkers

I have a Nitefly-M and a PM10. I actually prefer the PM10 (never admit anything like that on the Parker forum, though - they get terribly upset). It sounds and plays better.

The Nitefly has had Q-tuners, P-Rails and EMGs and still has an annoying "plinkiness" to it clean. Lovely to play but crap sounding.

The PM-10 on the other hand has its stock pickups and is all-round great. I'd seriously consider a PM24V for the Parker vibrato and piezos.

Re: Parkers

I've been wanting to try a mahogany bodied parker for a while now. It seems like the only people that have a problem with parkers are the purists who think a les paul is the only guitar.

Re: Parkers

I think I will go to the store and hope there is one there to try out. I do alot of rock and blues stuff, so I would want the peizo pm24v. But I really have been wanting one for ages now. Dunno if I would buy one online though. I bought my last guitar from MF and it was as expected, but this would be too much different for me. I would want the one i played and liked, not one that is picked out fo rme.
Thanks for all the input guys.

I have a PM20 Pro. Great sounding and playing axe. "Fastest player" of all my guitars. The JB never sounded good in it though. I put a 59 in the bridge and it sings. The Jazz neck is always split, giving me very strat-ish tones. To be honest, better sounding to my ears than my MIA Strat. The 59 coupled with the ebony fretboard, thin mahogany body, and 25.5 scale gets you into a very unique and pleasing village of tone.

I also had a P44 old trem. They changed it the Parker trem. IMO, the best trem on the market. The Stingers in tapped mode in the middle position of the toggle with the piezo mixed in is the best clean sound in any guitar I have ever played. (Acoustic/electric or solid body). I just never could get used to the width and radius of the neck from the ninth fret and higher (pitch). Plus the old trem was useless. now ya got me hankering for a new P44 even just for the tapped middle plus piezo. It is that good. Maybe I can put up with the oar like fretboard... The Stinger neck pup is a beaut as well. Great jazz tones in full HB, minibucker-ish when tapped. The bridge pup lacked something for me.

+1 for Parkers.

Re: Parkers

I've now got two Fly Deluxes, and don't foresee owning any other brand any time soon. I haven't played a NiteFly, but they're a bit less of a departure from conventional guitar design, so probably a bit of a safer bet.

Re: Parkers

I was a Fly addict for a long time. I've had a '98 Fly Deluxe, '98 Fly Tulipwood, '05 Southern NiteFly, '05 Parker Fly Mojo Single Cut, and an '05 Parker Fly Artist. The saying "nothing plays like a Parker" is entirely true. They have a very fast neck that is amazingly easy to play and they are extremely versatile. When I first began playing a Fly in '98 it entirely improved my playing; things that were previously hard to play became so easy.

Recently I've sold all my Flys except the Artist. I've now switched to some bouque guitars - Teuffel, D'Pergo & Koll - which play incredibly well but have much better tone than a Fly. The Fly can sound a little cold or modern, though if you play with a lot of effects it's not a problem. But if you're only using a guitar, a cable, and a amp, many other guitars have a better tone than a Fly.

I'm not trying to knock Flys. I still think they are amazing guitars but just having one is enough for my needs nowadays.

P.S. If anyone is planning to buy a Fly, I recommend getting a pre-US Music take-over. The build quality is so much better.

Re: Parkers

I did the new Belew model, but at over $9k, none will reach the hand of pro musicians. BTW, I always wanted a Teuffel. Which one do you have?

Re: Parkers

Yeah, The Belew Fly is cool but it's way-overpriced (and the final price was $3k more than they originally stated) and the controls on the guitar are setup exactly for Adrian Belew's needs but are limiting for most other players.

I have a Teuffel Tesla Studio/Classic, meaning it has the three pickups from the Studio model but also the noise buttons from the Classic. It's an amazing guitar!
