Partscaster recomendations

I really want to build a Partscaster, I need the arm contour. I can't play anything that has a sharp edge due to a tendon injury to my elbow.

Any recommendations for a body and neck? Warmoth and USACG come to mind.

Re: Partscaster recomendations

I personally love Warmoth and Musikraft. You can get the edges of the neck rolled (semi rolled is standard) on Musikraft necks whereas every other brand I've tried (Warmoth, Allparts, and Mighty Mite) need to file the edges of the frets (on the side of the board) down a bit...Warmoth needed very little if any, but just wanted to throw that out there. I really like both Warmoth and Musikraft.

If you are trying to go cheap then the Mighty Mite and Allparts is the way to go and still get a decent guitar but from my experience Warmoth and Musikraft have superior quality. I have not tried USACG but have heard good things about them.

Best of luck!

Re: Partscaster recomendations

I have never tried Musikraft or USACG but I currently own 4 Warmoth guitars and 1 Warmoth bass. I used to own a few more of their guitars and basses too. They are awesome and definitely get my endorsement all the way. I am currently taking a few minutes of a break from wiring up my latest Warmoth body. It's a very rewarding experience!

Over time, I've bought bodies and necks from all the well-known makers, and from a few smaller ones. My favorite of them is Musikraft. I like their options the best, and their quality is great IME. Their prices are okay, and unlike most of these types of places, they really know their "vintage" history and specs. They're also very nice and easy to work with. Aside from the few things I've had custom built by one-man operations, they've by far been the best place I've dealt with for my necks and bodies.

My least favorite is Bernie Hefner, followed by Warmoth. B. Hefner is so bad he shouldn't even be in business. With Warmoth, I just can't stand the way they bundle options together, locking you into certain specs along with certain other specs. And every time I've tried to deal with them by phone or e-mail, they are of no help whatsoever. They won't do anything outside of their oddly defined boxes. The whole place has a cookie cutter, too-big-for-its-britches feel to me. And their prices are really high too.

You can get used Squier bodies cheap offa Ebay. Everything you could want will bolt right up to it, they come in any color you like, and you could probably buy 5 of them for what one Warmoth body goes for. I've had a Warmoth strat body for a build. It was ...nice, but the Squier body I replaced it with was lighter, and cost about 1/3 of what I paid for the Warmoth. Although this goes right out the window if you want a real special color, fancy woods, or real specific mods done to it for you. I was just looking for a standard color, so used was SO much cheaper for me that it was worth it.

I've never had problems when asking Warmoth to do off menu options. They charge extra but that should be expected when making special requests. The Warmoth staff has always been beyond helpful when I have called or e-mailed them and their prices are absolutely phenomenal (especially considering the quality guitars you get for those affordable prices). I am not sure at all what you mean by "bundle options" and "locking specs" though.

Not to be argumentative, but when was the last time you tried to work with them?

They don't offer a "Roasted Quartersawn Maple" neck on their website but when you call and talk to them they absolutely do–it was a separate charge for the roasting but they did offer it.

I've found Brian Roossien to be most helpful! He always responds within a couple hours of my e-mails and genuinely tries to help get me the parts I'm looking for.

I own both Warmoth and USACG necks. Both are well made, but the fret dressing on the USACG is unquestionably superior.
