Passive pup for Schecter Blackjack ATX C1 (Swamp Ash)

Hi guys,

I have problem with pickups in my Schecter Blackjack ATX C1. It has Swamp ash body and SD Blackouts. These are absolutely uncontrolable pups for me. Output level 1,5 V...too hot...
I want to change Blackouts for some passive alternative which be the best for swamp ash body and ebony neck. Something like Dimarzio super distortion or Bill Lawrenc l500 or classic pup JB to the bridge and to the neck sd 59 or some diferent from dimarzio stage.
I play Engl Fireball, box with V30.
Does anyone have experience with these pups in swamp ash?
I've read some threads here, but found no resolution for me.

What kind of music do you play? And what tuning, etc. That'll affect what folks recommend, I reckon.

Go with the Bill Lawrences. A L500XL in the bridge and a L500R in the neck will work wonders in that guitar. Good output, transparent tone, excellent cleans, and a distorted tone to die for. Plus they are really cheap new or used.

I play power metal. Stadart tuning, sometimes drop D.

I have the black winter set in my schecter (swamp ash body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard). So, it's easy for me to declare what pickups are almost perfect in your axe :lmao:

Thanks for idea. I was thinking about these. Blackwinters are very good pups, but to midrangee for Engl Fireball, do you think? I know Schecter KM-6 with blackwinters...amazing axe for down drop tuning but in standart tuning should be to flat and like saw.

My guitar is always in standard tuning. And I have never thought its tone is "flat or like saw". Never tried them with Engl fireball, so it's not easy for me to give you an opinion. Yes, they are rich and full but they don't have too midrange to my ears. Playing with amp setting you can get the tone you want. I think they are really underrated. But if you think they are too much take a look to sentiente/pesagus combo.

I would stay with actives and put a EMG 85 in the bridge and an 81 in the neck.

That or the EMG 57/66 set are also great.

The Blackouts are hotter than both those sets. Not all actives are as hot as Blackouts so don't avoid active pickups entirely based on your experience with the Blackouts.

Agreed...look at the EMG 57/66 set. Very versatile, sound great with standard tuning and Drop D, more controllable output than the Blackouts and they will literally plug in to your existing electrical harness without having to change anything out!

I have a set of Blackouts actually so I understand the OPs concerns. Man they're hot, and I like hot pickups!

I found them to be too much for my Schecter as well, but an 85/81 solved the issue for me.

I found a home for the Blackouts in my LTD Horizon though. They are still really hot, but for some reason they aren't as "in yer face" in that guitar and just seem to work better in it.

Try an 85 at the bridge. Cheap

Also give the EMG Retro Active sets a look. I'm not a big EMG fan, but I was really impressed when I tried a Schecter Sun Valley with them.
