I've heard a few clips where the PATB-1 sounded somewhere between a Custom Custom and a Custom 5. Is that typical, or just a quirk of the amp/recording?
I'm torn whether to go for a PATB-1 Original or a PATB-2 Distortion in my RG570, I know what the PATB-2 does, but it's a bit specialized and my tastes are varied.
If the PATB-1 is too loose for my tastes in thrash (it needs to at least be tighter than a JB), that's no good. But as much as awesome as the PATB-2 is for harder sounds, I'm pessimistic about it for low to medium gain applications. (I actually like it clean, though, which does surprise me given my dislike of the other ceramics I've tried)
I've asked about the PATB-1 on a number of threads discussing the PATBs and gotten no answer*, nor does Seymour Duncan's pickup email seem to know for sure (nor did I get a reply on a follow-up question). Tried pestering Evan Skopp and Frank Falbo, but they're understandably busy.
Better yet would be to know for sure what the wire gauge is on the PATB-1, that'd be useful knowledge for all sorts of pickup hacking, though I'm likely to stick to magnet swaps for now.
