I hate to post this. This pickup does not seem to be widely used so maybe I should keep it to myslef. :laugh2:
But, this is a great pickup. Lows are nice and percussive and cut through while being low, and the mids are cool and spongey and the highs cut and still have some of the good Duncan Distortion tone but are not shrill. The pickup is airy and hi-fi in a way, but has a nice growl. It is compressed so the notes have a nice even volume across the neck and it makes playing easier and more fluid with less mistakes than the more piercing and stiff and up-front DD which can get thin on leads. The harmonics are easy to get and kind of different, more upper midrange than high end sounding.
I wanted a blend of the Duncan Distortion and Dimarzio Super Distoriton and this kind of does it but in a different and unique way. Pretty nice.
For context:
I am looking for 80's rock sound:
JB is nice for leads but the high mid-peak grates on me.
Duncan Distortion sounds great and cuts through but reveals too many mistakes on lead where it is stiff and can get thin.
Super Distortion is great on leads, fluid and singing, but gets lost in the mix on rhythm.
PAFS are good for classic rock but a bit weak and bright.
PATB-2 blends the good parts of the first three.
