PATB-3 and...

I'm putting together a new super strat. It's either going to be HH or HSH, I haven't made up my mind on that yet. My question is this- if I go with a PATB-3 in the bridge, do I use another PATB-3 in the neck or do I go with a PATB-1n? Thoughts?

ive never heard the patb3 in the neck. 1n/3 might be a cool combo. ive been running my patb3 with an a2 magnet for years and i love it but im an alnico2 junkie

Hi,
Jeremy and electricsynergy are right on. I have strong feelings on a middle HSH Strat. With the mid p'up, you have so many other options for an in between sound that will be almost as strong as your humbuckers when used together, the 2 or 4 position, but you will add so much more sparkle with either combo.
By the way, I want to add I have heard both of those PATB p'up's and although the bridge is pretty hot, it still sounds great and would be great with the neck PATB.
If you want to go neck and bridge, you can easily wire that so with your HSH you can still use just the hum neck and hum bridge, then go back to using the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 positions just like the usual 5 way Fender selector switch.
I do it that way and I love it. I also have a Single neck, no middle, and Humbucker Strat, plus a No neck, middle single coil, and humbucker bridge Strat. I love them all.
My 2.5 cents ('cause I'm old I get an extra half cent on my opinions)

Tried PATB-3 in the neck. Wooly sounding. Go with PATB-1n

PATB-1n. Great match.

Absoulutely! I had that very combo in my LP Custom for a long time. I eventually switched the PATB-3b for a PATB-1b only because I wanted to hear the difference. Both are fantastic. The PATB-3 has a little more "bite", but then again, you're asking about the neck pup.

+1 for the PATB-1n. ;)

P.S. Overall, the PATB-1n could easily be my favorite neck humbucker of all I've tried.
