PATB-3...?

Looking to try one of these in the bRidge pos of my historic R8--anyone have experience in a Les Paul? Is this pickup even available in standard spacing? Any thoughts for a neck match?

Re: PATB-3...?

It will sound even fatter in a LP since it was designed to make strat types have a bigger LP tone.
The spacing with be fine on a newer gibson which utlizes a T spaced pup at the bridge, gibsons 490T,498T and 500T all have a wider spacing that is 53mm same as trembuckers:cool2:
a jazz,or PGn makes a good neck partner
I think you may prefer a brobucker or screamin demon in a LP

Re: PATB-3...?

The guitar is pretty bright--looking to give it some punch. My favorite in it so far is a Custom 5.

It's a Historic Gibson--it takes the standard spacing.

The PATB3 has sort of a C5 sound in that the EQ is a smile shape but the mids are not as scooped as the custom5's are so there is the punch you are after:naughty:
the patb has plenty of punch!

The guitar is bright? The Brobucker would probably work great

Re: PATB-3...?

The PATB series come with their own ring, but usually only a flat one. This will be most unlikely to be suitable for an R8. The other choice is to shave the inside of a normal ring.

I have had a PATB 3 in a Parker PM20, which is of broadly similar construction to a LP. It was too fat. I think a long scale bolt-on is the designated guitar for this pickup.

The C5 is usually the thin, bright and scooped one (of the custom family). If you say you like it then I'm thinking the guitar isn't necessarily bright, but that you're just looking for more drive than a PAF strength pup. In that case I'd second the choice of a Brobucker.

Re: PATB-3...?

But, do they make one that fits?

Yes. They will make you one, but you have to order it as a shop floor custom. Just find your local Duncan dealer or whoever you deal with online for them and tell them you need to order a PATB3 on the neck sized bobbin. The PATBN is wound on standard spaced bobbins. Depending on your dealer, I don't think they have any up charge on floor customs.
