Paul wiring

Have a friend that is redoing a Les Paul-style bolt-on neck guitar and sent him some links to schematics an he had a question about these:

Being the wiring non-guru that I am......what's the difference? I've read somewhere on some effect concerning the two-volume, two-tone Gibson-style setups but couldn't find it.......would one of you gurus please advise. Thanks.

On the first one, the pickups see a constant 500k load regardless of the pot position. But, if you have the 3-way in the middle, turning either volume control down to zero kills both pups.

On the second one, you can lower the volume of one pickup without it affecting the other, but the "load" the pickup sees will get greater, (more loss of highs), as you lower its volume.

Its a trade-off. You just have to pick one.
